  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss Compact Primes need matching matt box

So you would need some form of Rota-Pol tray with a gear wheel on top. Lucky for you we sell these in a variety of sizes. ;-)

Are these the Vantage trays or from somewhere else? They don't appear on your website...

We have these trays specially manufactured for us. I need to put in a request to get them p on the website. We have something like 16,000 items in our "active inventory" system and can bring in probably 100,000 more from the various manufacturers we deal with. So many toys ...

But I'm the guy who arranged getting these things made for us, so I should have made sure they were up on the site. I'll get on it.

Hey Mitch

Where can i find information about the ROTA tray for the LMB15? I dont mind buying 5.65x5.65 filters Im trying to avoid buying 2 sets of grads IE horizontial and vertical ones, thats why I'm trying to stick to square filters.

On another note I have been told if i buy the RED Schneider filter kit that I dont need to use the IR filter on the RED MX. Is this correct?

And Im not fussed if the matt box is ARRI or not I just need one to suit the CP'2 range that can clamp on with 3 stages, so If there is a croziel or something of a good quality that can clamp on, my back (STEADICAM OP!) would appreciate it. AS LONG AS IT IS LIGHT!!!!!

The Rota is a square or rectangular tray that holds a round filter within. There is a gear wheel that is used to rotate the filter. Not appropriate for grad filters; really just meant for use with polarizers.

As noted on other threads on this site, the MX has a new OLPF that is more resistant to IR pollution, but it does not completely eliminate it (that is, IIRC -- someone correct me if need be). So maybe you don't need the IR filter as much, but you still might need it on a hot summer day.

I believe there is also a Vocas mattebox that one can use to hold three filters and use as a clamp-on. But three filters is a lot of weight to hang off the front of a lens with no additional support. The mattebox should really be as light as simple and light as possible at that point. That's why the LMB-15 is so basic -- the thing weighs nothing. The MMB-1 has a few more features but it also weighs a full pound more. At a certain point, hanging all that off the front of your lens is not good for the long term life of the mechanics of your lens or the lens mount.

Last I heard you still will probably need IR cut filters above 1.2ND, and in some circumstances even with less than 1.2ND. So better than the M sensor, but not a magic brick wall OLPF.
