  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zacuto Ultimate Kit vs. RED The Clutch

There's some good bits in there, but I think you'll find the weight a bit front heavy on that Zacuto setup. You're going to end up having the camera and lens weight ahead of your shoulder with that setup. Mounting the battery on that rear plate will help, but it won't fully balance the rig.

The advantage of the Clutch is with the back and chest supports operating for any duration of time can be done in comfort with stability. Not many shoulder rigs do that right. The Clutch does.

I've only seen pictures of those online and haven't seen them stateside yet. They are relatively new to the market.

Go simple. I hate rigs. Get some simple grips like Spider, Ronford Baker Moose Bars, O Bars, WC Bars, mount them to 19mm or 15mm LWS, hang you battery off the back rods and low on WC's Batt Slider or AB Matrix Mount, throw on a House of Power shoulder pad and away you go. Saves you switch over time. Allows you to perfectly balance the camera on your shoulder while keeping the CG low. Most of these rigs are front heavy or a stupid hassle switching over. That time lost in switch over never goes unnoticed when money's really being spent.

Just did a commercial today for a major phone maker with C300's. After all the crappo rigging, I just wondered wouldn't have been simpler to rent a camera without all the fanfare and that's balanced.
