  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zabolight 5600k LED Fresnel 96 CRI

Nice found

I figured 2 of these would be awesome to set up on a battery/inverter system. But no one seems to be responding. I read somewhere thats its equivalent to a 650 tungsten fresnel.

Well if anyone cares, i emailed them and asked if they would send me an evaluation unit. So he's sending me one. So I'm going to do some tests. Anyone interested? Suggestions on what I should test?

Hi Kyle,

the internal voltage should be DC for LEDs. I guess the light has a build in AC/DC converter. Please ask the guys at Zabolight whether it`s possible to build in an alternative DC input plug (best would be 11-16 Volt).
A friend from a TV station in Europe told me they are not answering emails. Do you have a direct contact person? Email address?
Any idea about the emitted lumen?

Peter

I am interested!

I am interested in the build quality, the amount of heat it produces, the beam angle between spot and flood, that kind of thing.

96 CRI from an LED sounds awesome, I haven't been looking, but I haven't seen abother LED fixture with that kind of colour rendition so I find this pretty exciting.

Actually, can you also please test flicker when shooting off speed? Specifically interested in 180° shutter at 25 fps, 36, 48, 50, 60, 120 fps. If you could walk the shutter towards 360° and figure out where the flicker stops too, that would be appreciated. Sorry if that's a tedious thing to test!

I wonder if the flicker would be different using the model in Australia? You'd think the power supply would supply a similar power signal for the LED no matter what location you were in.

...96 CRI from an LED sounds awesome...

From what I understand, the CRI index doesn't really apply to LED lights (or fluorescents) due to their 'spiky' output. They can hit 96 CRI at some parts of the spectrum while spiking out of spec at other wavelengths. If anyone's testing, make sure you shoot a direct comparison of skin-tones with a reliable tungsten source to see what's actually what. The odd colours from some modern light sources are hard or impossible to always correct out later.

I'm interested. Thanks Kyle. Concerns me a bit that they don't have proper specs up...

I had been looking at:
http://fotodioxpro.com/index.php/fo...d-bracket-and-removable-barndoors-cri-85.html

When you test Kyle, I'm most interested in colour cast, which from talking with other suppliers, a 96 CRI should be clean across different sensors from what i understand. If you guys have a different camera at hand besides your RED I'd be interested if you could confirm that there is no cast in either showing up.
Flicker.
How "spotty" or not the flood mode is.
How well the barn doors shape/mask the light.

I still have not received the light. Im going to keep emailing him. He replied that he's busy, and has better things to do than send out lights for evaluation.

Sorry for the late responses, I really need to set up some notification for this thread.

I emailed greg from their site. He responds fairly quickly. I just asked him.

I was planning on comparing it to a 650watt Arri and a 800watt Joker. We have a 5Dmk3 and I have a few freinds with some AF100s, EX1s, GH2 and c300.

Ill check flicker, Spot range, and how the barn doors work.

Got an e-mail response today.

"Hi Kyle,

Hey we are chugging along. I don't have any Z4 for demo's. We sell everyone we make. Its been a great light. Version 2 will be coming in February / March. The light operates on 24 volts. I wont have a battery option on the current model, maybe in the new version.

Thanks
Greg Sabo"

curious how many they're making that they don't have any to spare
Also what's interesting is that this has been a few months long process. And there are still no 3rd party reviews. It looks like be a bright, led, high CRI light that could be battery powered. Has potential.
