  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

You want a 4K camera for less than 4K, then don´t buy my R1

I remember when I originally purchased a Scarlet when I wish I could afford Red One MX which cost $25k new at that time. Then came around the discontinuation of selling it new and selling BT models for $4K. That was the absolute STEAL of the century. I ended up selling my Scarlet and built a nice Red MX package that I still consider to be one of the best cinema cameras in existence! It is a tank of a machine and creates GORGEOUS images as long as you know the craft ;)

I would never sell mine for $4K. Even though it has already paid for itself a few times! To good of a camera. It is still my A camera and will be our A camera on a major network feature film...and couldn't be happier about shooting it on my "Old Red One" LOL - This camera is simply amazing!!! And when it is finished being shot I know it will look fantastic. ;)

Dude, I don't know what you're smoking but if you think a red one mx is worth under $4k, you're nuts! The buyer can only control the market if the cameras are readily available at retail. So unless they are selling red one MX at B&H, RED etc for $4k then it is worth way more than that.

Also, to all these cheap bastards offering such a ridiculous price for the MX, stick to shooting DSLRs.

Why do you assume that because I have a differing opinion than you I'm a drug smoking loser?

Where did I say that the Red One wasn't worth $4000? It was simply an observation of a buyer's potential mindset. I said:

Brilliant camera, and an absolute steal for $4000

But this is about buying a second hand Red One with potentially high hours and then expecting to make a profit when selling it a few months later - why would anybody want to pay a premium? And how many BT Red One's were sold? 1000? 5000? It was plenty, and they pop up for sale here fairly often.

I'm not trying to encourage low ball prices, but I think it is ridiculous to think that a camera YOU paid $4000, is suddenly worth so much more than that now you want to sell it.

I got a bicycle as a gift, so it cost me $0. Does that mean it's worth $0?

That's a silly analogy. Your friend bought you a second hand bike for $400. This Bike was originally worth $2500, but it was old stock, refurbished after being used in a big road race. The bike has now been superseded by a $1700 bike and an $1100 bike. Your bike comes up for sale pretty often and you're thinking of selling yours - brand new your bike was originally worth $2500, this model was second hand and cost $400 (the manufacturer sold 2000 of them only a few months ago) - how much is your bike worth if you wanted to sell it after riding it around for a few months?

I'm selling my RED ONE MX cause I do now have money for an EPIC, but have receive several proposal saying that I'm asking too much cause the RED ONE MX BT with SSD price is lower than 4.000$...

I had to answer to some that if they want to spend less than 4K for a camera, than they should junp and buy a 4K BMC, cause my BT R1, a camera that can debayer true 4K, a camera that made lot's of great movies is not for sale for that price...

Yes, I pay 4.000$ for it, and was very lucky to catch one (thanks RED), they sold the cameras to some of us for 4K, but its doesn't mean that its price value is 4K.

I will not sell it for that price, I refuse to sell my RED ONE MX for the price of a BMC...

I'm selling my complete package for approximatly 10.000$, people are trying to convince me that my package only worth between 6k to 8K...

Am I mad????

It is worth exactly how much you can sell it for. Best of luck!

It's a figure of speech

Like I said, it's not available retail. Can you find me a store or site that sells the red one mx for $4000 right now? It's not like I'm saying hey I just bought an epic for retail price and put 2000 hours on it but now I want to sell it for more than I paid. This was a once of a life time deal for those who jumped on a $25k camera at a great price. Name me a camera that does what the R1MX can do right now for $4000 (or even $5-$6K).

Based on your comments, your mind set is EXACTLY the same as the low ballers. BTW, do you have anything to sell? I would love to get some great deals. Maybe you have a 57 corvette by any chance? Heck, I'll even pay the retail price for it in 1957.

LMAO exactly!

debayer

debayer

I dont think the red one 4k can debayer true 4k cameras measurable resolution is always lower then the captured resolution.

The market will dictate the price, it doesn't matter what you think. Wait 'till dragon is out those things will depreciate even more, remember is a camera body, they get hit quickly not matter if it's a still or cinema one. Good luck with your machine.

But it is a case of supply and demand, and there seem to be more For Sale threads than Want to Buy threads for Red Ones. Was Sergio smoking something when he sold his Red One? http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?102550-FOR-SALE-RED1-complete-in-great-condition

Check out Humberto's for sale thread http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?97602-RED-ONE-MX-(BT)-for-sale-EUROPE/page2 it is a great package, and probably a great deal for anybody in Portugal or that part of Europe, but it's pretty much tumbleweeds. So either a) his package is too expensive for what the market will pay, or b) the market is conspiring against redusers to penny pinch you to the poor house.

I'm not saying his camera package isn't WORTH $10,000... It means nobody will pay it.

Sergio sold it for $7500. Did he sell it for $4000???

But that was $7500 for a package similar to Humberto's.

people are trying to convince me that my package only worth between 6k to 8K

So if he was offered $8000 that's maybe not bad? $4000 for his package would be insulting - the $4000 reference in this thread is if it were a body only sale which is isn't. Referring to Sergios sale 7-8K for this package might be reasonable?

Daniel,

I don´t see much similarity, I configure mine, to have the less weight possible to take it to the wild (I do wildlife), and on tripod, cause a good tripod head for the RED ONE is expensive and weights a lot...

The main differences are, I don't offer a RED 7" monitor neither drives or CF, but I do offer SSD side mount, not available for sale on RED STORE anymore, prolock nikon mount (and PL), 64gb ssd (bought this year), red station mini (bought this year), 2X SWIT S-8172S BATTERIES 160W and charger (bought this year), you can split the batteries in two so you can take it in hand luggage.

As I said Humberto, I'm not doubting that your camera package is worth 8000 euros, I'm just theorizing why people might not be interested in paying it.

Why would you think a RED ONE is worth less than $4K, even less than $5K for that matter? Market realities and such? BS. Reduser is NOT necessarily an accurate representation of the market at large, the people that come here shopping for cameras have a skewed perception of the value of things. There are LOTS of dreamers that prowl these waters, actively hunting for deals they can never afford no matter how low the prices. Just because Jim sold off his inventory of BT R1s for $4K does not mean the cameras are worth that, they were selling for $7-8K the day before the sale, and went back to $5-6K the day after the sale ended. And just because every now and then somebody is willing to sell an R1 ridiculously low does not mean the price is less than $4K. Which is below what you should be willing to take. If you can't find a buyer in Reduser, put the camera up on Ebay and other places, and eventually, you will sell it for an acceptable price. Maybe not what you hoped for but you should certainly not have a problem making $4K for the body alone. Let all the naysayers and market experts say what they will. In the last month, I sold two R1s at $5K a piece, body alone. It took some work but it got done. And yes, I had to sell them outside of Reduser.

just to give you a heads up, Im doing a big budget film in LA and we are using 2 BT R1s and 2 EPICS and the R1 cameras are renting for for $700 per day (not including operator). There IS a market and folks buying the R1 for 10K. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. The R1 is still a high end professional workhorse and a great 4K cinema camera. I am keeping both of mine....They keep the $$$ rolling in!! ;)

fair enough. its probably worth mentioning that, because the BMC gives you access to the raw data, you can choose any debayering system you want.. reds debayer is great..but the best ive seen? anyone lucky enough to pickup a BT R1 (I paid £3.349k inc vat for mine)..is gunna get a shock when it needs fixing.. expect to pay more for a new motherboard than you already laid out.. and don't expect red to publish an upfront list of repair costs, ive asked several times
