  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yet another new Mac pro rumor

We bought one fully loaded the other week...Hope they stay somewhat sane and keep making those. Just look inside and you instantly realize how nice these machines are made. All the mac pros we bought during the years have been a bit more costy than a pc with the same data spec ( they never have the same solid built machines but in regards to cpu power etc) the difference is that the mac's last and after 3-4 years or so I can sell them a get a decent payment. PC's on the other hand usually goes straight to the dumpster after a couple of years.

Some developers who have seen the road map have decided to drop OSX support. Even RED has 'gone PC' and I'm sure they're also privy to what lays ahead. I wouldn't be building an OSX pipeline right now unless you think iMacs are usable. Apple has *always* been slow on staying up to date on hardware, especially GPUs--and I don't see the status quo changing any time soon.

Really? I dont think that any developer has seen the road map...

I think the concept of the "pro" personal computer is evolving. There'll be more modularity and the ability to configure the box that you need. Thunderbolt will lead the way. There'll be RAID enclosures, expansion chassis, etc. Sonnet even has a box now that can expand a Mac mini with PCIE boards, etc. Wouldn't be all that surprised if Apple led the way. We'll see.

The only constant is change.

I often hear that the Sonnet box and Thunderbolt in a more general way, can't keep up with the speed required for graphics cards. Can't say if it is true, I don't know that much about that kind of stuff.

Anyway I think Apple HAVE to continue making tower computers just because our industry can't really work on iMacs. In fact, I think they should make a smaller tower (a bit like the G4 Cube but bigger... I'm thinking something like the "fragbox" from Falcon Northwest but with the Apple taste) with non Xeon processors (6+ cores core I7) for small budget pros AND for gamers. I know... Gamer... On mac... A joke ? BUT with lots of frist grade video games on the Mac Market (Diablo 3 recently !) I think a good Mac tower computer for the same price of the iMac could make a huge hit.

Or maybe it's just because I want one ? lol

The lack of new stuff is a given in many areas of Apple. It is to expect that they renew everything, and radical. I assume that the gap between existing hardware and the new developed ones will be a really big one. I think it will be after many years a complete renew of how things work. But discussing things will not move them, nor 15k people on Facebook will change them at all. Their plans and route maps are spanned over longer distances.
Just my two cents. (Apple Pro User since two decades, before that I was a "student user", now I teach at Apple from time to time)

Our sources are currently unsure of the feature-set coming with the new Mac Pro, but these sources say that there will likely now be three configurations. Two standard versions of the Mac Pro and a third version with OS X Server capabilities. In early 2011, we reported on some of the work that Apple engineers had been prototyping up for a future version of Apple’s Pro desktop line. For that report, sources said that Apple had been experimenting with a new Mac Pro design that is rackable and stackable. These prototype machines also included space for more storage drives, an important feature now that the Xserve has been long discontinued. With a year having passed since we heard about these prototype Mac Pros and the ability of Thunderbolt to offload a lot of the expandability, the final new Mac Pro designs could be different than the current designs but we haven’t yet heard definitively either way.......

Please apple give me a reason to keep buying your products...

It beginsss!

And I think I had My climax. Now with a clear mind I realize that of my two long overdue computer purchases, I can only afford one. It will either be a new MBP or MP. As excited as I am about the release of a new MP, I'm actually more in need a mobile solution that can playback 1/4 res 5K R3Ds. So here's hoping that new MBPs are powerfull enough to make me forget about a shiny newfangled MP, at least for a while.

For those who have followed the WWDC in the past, are the announcements of new Mac models done on the first day or is it spread out over the week? I need to buy a new machine very soon, and I'm trying to hold off until the news from this conference.
