  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can anyone confirm this?

I have tried to uninstall, re-install, repaired permissions +++

Compressor seems to work fine, but wraptor won't even wrap files it has already done...

compressor 3.0.5 not compatible with wraptor 1.0.1

compressor 3.0.5 not compatible with wraptor 1.0.1

confirmed by quvis, and they are working on an update.
Also Wraptor seems to work better when having video+audio.
Video only gives sometimes no results when using clusters.
We had to remove compressor and reinstall it + limited upgrade to 3.0.3

that is very bad news... just when we got an affordable dci solution!
i hope we can get hold of a compressor 3.0.5 compatible version...
perhaps Apple can buy their software?...

i made a separate partition - quvis only.
you could make a carbon-copy of you current system and remove compressor and its receipts, and then install only compressor with the CD's, then do a manual update - proapp 2008-2 and -3 -- not the -4 as includes the new compressor 3.0.5. Small price to pay to make nice DCI's

hi filipvandoorne
can you tell me about how to downgrade compressor to 3.0.3 in detail?
thank you very much

I would just take a separate partition or external firewire harddisk, install on it a fresh 10.5, update to 10.5.5- download the combo on applesupport, quicktime to 7.5.5 update, then install ONLY finalcutpro and compressor, then update with only the proapp 2008-2 and 2008-3 that you can also download at applesupport, install if necessary decklink or aja drivers/codecs, then setup in system prefs the sharing name of the machine to a name without special characters and no spaces, also avoid names of harddisks with special characters and spaces, then in system prefs, qmaster , options set to the max of processor, start the qmaster, install and activate wraptor, and each time you need to make DCI's startup with this system and feed compressor with your 24fps 2K and HD square pixel quicktime movies.
extra tricks:
- set in the dock and startup also the application-utility Activity monitor to
check that all is rendering normally,
- in the quicktime player, menu quicktime player/preferences/ general, dont enable finalcutpro color compatibility as you normally would, but DO change in system preferences-displays your monitor calibration to a custom profile with gamma 2.6 - in expert mode or with a calibration probe. This allows you to preview your quicktime with a gamma that will be approx the same on the dci projector. But if you would then view the files in finalcutpro, they would be too dark. Finalcutpro assumes that your video is 2.2 AND that your display is at gamma 1.8...

that's very bad news - I just purchased Quvis. Better call my credit card to reverse the charges. Does anyone know whether Quvis will work on a legacy basis? I thought the projection system needs to have some type of Quvis software decoder installed - so even if I end up keeping the software and creating the separate fcs install w/Compressor 3.03 I'll run in to the problem of the projection system not being able to decode correct???? Can anyone clear up my confusion?

Thanks Everyone & Happy Holidays!

This does not affect the projection end at all and the wraptor is still the most affordable DCP encoder ever.
I would NOT have reversed that order...

I actually haven't reversed the charges yet (credit card company requires me to sit on it for 3 days) but I just red the following thread and it concerned me....
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22678&highlight=quvis

specifically the entry:
"Yes, it will be projected on their 4K projector. I'm having a little trouble with the Quvis software not loading onto their servers. Sony's looking into it as well as Quvis. Hopefully we can create a DCP version. If not I might just haul the Mac down there and SDI it straight in."

and....

"It must be DCP compliant. Which is JPG2000. However, the Quvis Wraptor software should work. But the projectionists over at the Landmark are getting error messages loading it to their server. Quvis is unresponsive. Sony looked at the log file and can't figure it out."

So with Quvis out of the picture, what are the other options for affordably creating DCI compliant 2K projection?

Both Qube, Doremi and Frauenhofer have software encoders.
What is affordable, depends on how you see it. I guess Frauenhofer will be the cheapest.

Hello Gunleik. I'm the guy who wrote Wraptor for QuVIS. By the time Compressor 3.0.5 came out, QuVIS was already effectively dead, so there is no forthcoming update (at least not any time soon). The entire staff was laid off at the start of December, and have started scattering across the country in search of new jobs.

If QuVIS ever gets around to filing bankruptcy, I suppose it's possible another company could buy Wraptor from them. When it became clear the company was going under, I tried to get management to try selling it to Apple, but they wouldn't even consider the idea.

As for the Sony problem, it's just that--a Sony problem. For some reason, their server expects the CPL filename to have a ".xml" extension, even though the DCI spec makes no such constraint. Wraptor-created packages load just fine on QuVIS, Doremi, Dolby, Kodak, XDC, Qube, and GDC cinema servers.

Downgrade Final Cut Compressor so Wraptor Can Run

Downgrade Final Cut Compressor so Wraptor Can Run

I am another of the QuVIS group out looking for a new job. I was also the guy demonstrating Wraptor for QuVIS last fall in Amsterdam when it was announced at the LAFCPUG event during IBC. And I had Wraptor break when my personal MacBook Pro was updated to Compressor 3.0.5.

Most people have figured out that Wraptor 1.0.1 will still run if you match it to Compressor 3.0.4. It's doing the Compressor downgrade that is a bit challenging, especially since Apple no longer makes the old FCS Pro Apps upgrades generally available. I called Apple Support last weekend and they told me the older update apps are not on their servers anymore and even they can't get to them. I can't fault Apple for wanting to migrate everyone to their most recent software, but nonetheless I wanted to be able to run Wraptor again. Thankfully, I found the older updates.

I'll skip all the things I tried and cut right to what I was able to make work. Thanks to the many online posts, especially from reduser filipvandoorne for guiding the way.

I'm running a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MBP, 4GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.5.6. I cloned my boot drive to an external Firewire 800 hard disk (via Disk Utility) and tried everything there first. If you need to run FCS in its latest form but still run Wraptor you could keep your primary boot drive setup with all the current FCS software, but not Wraptor, and then keep the external boot drive setup just for the Wraptor functionality.

Since I had Wraptor installed and hoped to avoid having to re-register it I did not uninstall it. The steps below worked on my external drive and then again on my internal drive. Here are the steps for the internal drive:

1 - Copied "Wraptor.plugin" from the Internal Boot Drive "/Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster/Wraptor.plugin" to "INT_BOOT/0_Wraptor/WRAPTOR RECONCILE/Wraptor Plugin Backup".

2 - Ran FCS_Remover and removed all FCS. (Source=http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm).

3 - Did full FCS install from FCS diskset, then rebooted.

4 - Installed Pro Application Update 2008-01, rebooted. (Source=http://support.apple.com/downloads/Pro_Apps_Updates_2008_001_003).

5 - Installed Pro Application Update 2008-02, rebooted.

6 - Installed Pro Application Update 2008-03, rebooted.

7 - Copied "Wraptor.plugin" from "INT_BOOT/0_Wraptor/WRAPTOR RECONCILE/Wraptor Plugin Backup" to INT_BOOT/Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster/Wraptor.plugin", rebooted.

8 - Managed to run Compressor 3.0.4 with Wraptor 1.0.1 using just "this computer" successfully.

9 - Setup Qmaster/QuickCluster. Had to set it up, reboot, and then go back to Apple Qmaster Prefs to select 2 "service instances" and enable sharing.

10 - Managed to run Compressor 3.0.4 with Wraptor 1.0.1 using "Qmaster QuickCluster" successfully. Reduced processing time by more than 1/3; Activity Monitor showed both procs running flatout during the entire DCP creation process.

I hope this helps!

I'm using 14 days trial version of the Wraptor. I have 'old' Final Cut (with Compressor v 3.0.1) installed on my MacBook pro. I was trying to create a Digital Cinema Package and I got such error x NSException raised by 'NSGenericException', reason = 'St9bad_alloc'
What I'm doing wrong? I was trying to google such phrase but I couldn't find any answer.
Does anyone have similar problem?

Warm regards from Poland
