Would a Glidecam work with RED?

Has anyone tried using a glidecam for quick stabilized shots with their RED rig? It would seem like it would work for 5-10 minutes, then your forearms would get too shaky. Does anyone use a glidecam frequently?






I see Devin Supertramp uses a glidecam with his RED, but I also notice he uses a RED volt, not a v-mount, no rails, no cage, no focus control, and not even a top handle.

Yes, they work. It's all about counterbalance. I've done it with a 190Wh battery even, though I don't recommend it unless you're Popeye

I threw my Epic-W on a Glidecam HD 4000 for the hell of it one time. It was definitely too heavy for me once balanced.

Yes it works. But practice a lot with that setup and use Red Vs or the Redvolt XL batterys. Or as I do it for the most part run a cable to dtap and tape the vmount to your belt. Just try to keep it as light as possible.
Otherwise it will kill you after a while. I can hold it with a 95wh bebob for a decade but as your arm and wrist get tired shots will not be that smooth. But the cool thing is you can leave the sidehandle and 4,7 on the Red.
So its totally worth the practicing!

My Steadicam Zephyr case is so big, it would be nice to have a Glidecam instead when you only need 5-10 minutes.

Mated a Monstro + Glidecam to a Merlin steadicam vest last month:

+) Slottled Handle of glidecam over a metal rod that I created from threading hex nuts in a bolt (and the bolt became the terminus of the Merlin Steadicam)
+) Needed to add a 1kg weight to the base
+) Used an XL battery

The main problem had was the Merlin springs at maximum tension only supported 97% of the weight (so it didn’t glide).
Managed to mostly not bump into people as too (twas an underground masquerade!).

Also found myself drinking a lot of water over 4 hours as you burn through the calories!
