Look at any images from the old school photographers, like Edward Weston and tell me, that grain doesn't matter.
Looking at great older photographs, a lot of our assumptions about what matters get challenged. I went to the Avedon exhibit at MFA in Boston over the winter and was struck by how many of the images were not sharp. A lot of motion blur. A lot of images enlarged beyond what I would be comfortable doing with my own images. But they were remarkable photographs. It made me start to explore older lenses on my R1, but more importantly, it has made me try to put technical "perfection" a little farther down in my set of priorities, and "magic" a little farther up.
