  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Work problem with Scarlet+FollowFocus (lanparte)+Viewfactor 15mmLW

I had the same problem with my Leica's and Ofocus/Obox. Found a rather cheap solution.

Step up all your lenses to 80mm od. Go buy a 20 pack of cheap 77mm clear filters, Remove the glass from the filters, extend the lenses fronts, cover the inner wall with black Gaff.

one solution is a top mount for the FF and then have the mattebox on the bottom rods... but then again sometimes the FF cause more hassle than good.. :(

The curse of the small diameter stills Nikons. My personal preference would be to make some delrin gears with a much larger diameter and a clearance cut out on the front to overhang the wider shroud on front of the lens. This would enable to swinging gear to be furthur away from other structures and make the focus throw more controllable too. I vaguely recall Wayne Kinney or one of the other 35mm adaptor manufacturers was examining a standard driven gear size with split collet fixings unique to each lens diameter. I don't know if it went anywhere. There was a possibility the Fenner-Dodge tapered collet pulley and driveshaft coupling system patents might be infringed. The less expensive one size fits all "plasticuff" gears may have cruelled the viable market.

If you guys are still having issues with a DIY solution -- LanParte have just released an extension arm to address this exact problem:

Hidden under this lot is a tiny little Nikon 50mm f1.2 - All our Nikons wear a similar outfit to bring them up to common front diameter, focus diameter and focus gear position. Much easier to handle then and not really expensive to do.

Where did yu get the slick red gear?

Thanks Larry,

i'll look at them, but still wonder if John got them somewhere nearer to the UK?

the oconnor cff1 works great with all my lenses and my obox. its rad. even on my short little 50 it gives enough clearance.

The nearest that I saw in the UK were the 360 degree plastic gears that Shoot35 used to sell. Unfortunately I think they have been discontinued and they now only have the type with the single screw to attach it, which stops a complete rotation.
