  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wooden Camera vs. Element Technica (EVF Mounts)?

The spinner has a height adjustment of maybe an inch, up or down, go crazy and take your pick. No adjustment port or starboard, unless you move the entire camera with it too. For my needs, it's fine. Didn't want anything more really.

But look at that attached photo of the Spinner... it is way too far away from the side of the camera.

I need a way to bring it closer to the camera body.

I can't speak to your preference on distance, but the spinner is perfectly designed IMO. It sits right where my right eye wants to be when shoulder mounted. If you have the top mount in that picture, you can also slide it away from the camera to use with the left eye.

That has been my experience as well, it sits right where I want it when shoulder mounted. Any closer to the camera body and my head would get in the way.

What do you do when your on a tripod or dolly with a big lens shooting low or high?

If it was perfectly designed it would attach directly to the side of the EVF without the need for the bottom plate and the extra screws.

Personally, I like my head nice and close to the camera. It's much more stable for me to operate with and it feels like I am more connected to the camera.

That's great that it works for you in the current default position.

For me, I would like to have the option to adjust it. Like I can on dozens of other film and hd cameras.

I just picked up this yesterday:

It is a really great built and is very well thought out. I am really excited with it.

The DFS looks very nice but I worry that all that metal is added weight. The wooden looks very functional and light. I have the ET and I agree that if you need to adjust the EVF mid shot like on a dolly rise or lower the ET is the one to have. In the practical world, I use that feature maybe once a year and I shoot all the time. I need to buy 2 more and I am still deciding myself.

Prost,
Rich

The biggest problem with the Wooden mount is when you get the Bomb into a proper position for handheld the support bar htis you in the forehead. That and the lack of a proper clutch. The ET is currently the best but way over sized for the Epic. I've played with an Ussy tech and it's a step in the right direction but I need some real production time to shake it down.

We have them both, and they're definitely different beasts (with different price points).

The ET version is a more professional option (proper clutch, ability to use a leveller etc.) - but both can be very versatile. For owner/operators you might be ok with the wooden camera option - its great bang for the buck.

Hey Paul!

I wasn't satisfied with anything out there, and went to Ryan at WC to come up with something new. I think it's awesome, and so simple, I can't believe it's not the standard. Last time I was at Arri CSC I even had David Fincher's AC's coming to take photos of it! ;)

Ryan did me up a LW15 rod mount for the top, and a custom short 15mm rod with a swat rail hard-fastened to the end. Added a spinner and that was that. Very light, tool-less, and adjustable. Sorry it's not a great photo of the mount.

Cheers,

It's decent, dampening is pretty good. I loved the control with the ET clutch, but it's bulky. But so is the spinner. There's room for improvement =)

When using this hand held is there enough clearence/distance from the rod connection (part just under the EVF cable in pic) that your head doesn't hit it? That's what really bugged me about the original WC mount.

I am having the same issue. I feel if the evf sled was slightly longer and I could mount the Bomb further from the point where the 15mm rail meets the uvf arm or the thumb screw was lower profile somehow.

But as it stands that thumb screw is digging into the side of my head.

anyone found a solution to this?

Anybody using the Solid Camera EVF mount?

I ordered one last week and it should be here Friday.

Looks the goods.

I got the Bomb attachment as opposed to the general evf holder. The bomb piece is much smaller. I also got the dovetail mount and not the rod mount. It looks like it will be nice and small for an evf set up.
