  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Woah the SCARLET is the real deal, BEST CAMERA available today & it will Dominate.

I'm not looking to burst anyone's bubble here but Scarlet is a less featured Epic at a lower price correct?

Thusly the footage should be exactly the same at the same compression ratio/frame size as an Epic no? So it should be no surprise that it looks as good and performs as well as it does.

The biggest bonus factor, it seems to me, in market domination is the price point which is perfect.

The formula for the future I think will be: More productions buying Scarlets and renting Epics.

And not even renting Epics for longer than a day or so - shoot a film on Scarlet, and rent an Epic for specific shots.

I really can't figure out why people are so confused over the benefit of 4k vs 1080 acquisition. Have you not seen the way a 4k film scan on Bluray (say, True Grit for example) looks vs. footage shot at 1080, then encoded, so forth. If you can't see the differences of subtle detail, I'm not sure what else to say!

I saw an in theater preview of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and all I can say is I'm proud to have purchased that camera. Also, if anyone has seen the Zacuto shoot out for 2011, while the Alexa was praised a bit more than the RED, it was obvious that resolution was much better than any other camera tested as well as the dynamic range was just behind the top dogs and that was the RED ONE.

I am always one to ask questions and doubt things until it's proven, and I've done the research from talking to Abel Cine Tech to Filmmakers, etc and all seem to say the RED has the clear advantage.

Thanks BigLu fab to hear and very important.

But where's the footage being posted! there seems to be hardly any, why!

Why not post this red education footage on here! or any footage. So far barely one minute footage posted.
Least with Canon C300 there's plenty of footage out there and hands on demos around the country.

Im not a not a doubter but just pointing out fact and getting a bit fed up of you guys saying and not showing
how good in words it is but where's the footage posted!

How does it translate/res down to 1080p on internet! this is where most of my work goes.

Most people will use Scarlet for internet TV corporate, NOT for the 43 foot screens

So please lets see some real examples on here.

Many thanks

And yes l do have a scarlet on order

You wanna use Scarlet for Internet? Ok, get an atomos ninja and call it a day but it's a shame you're not making films with it.

I shoot Corporates, docos and other stuff for internet release every day on MX Alexa and EPIC. I see no reason not to use a scarlet for the same purpose.

Also, has the ninja magically gained RAW recording capabilities?

Double Scarlet all the way!

Seriously though, this post makes the wait for the shipping seem minuscule. I look forward to seeing what this camera will do.

Drew

Hey Drew,

Hopefully even the wait won't be that long. I just got my Fedex email saying it's on its way.... So I am very, very excited about this.

That's some great news for us european customers. Can you tell a bit more? Is it PL mount? when did you order? You're dealing via Red UK?

yes Antonio should be nice to help us because no sign from RED UK for many European customers and if you could give us also your SO ...
You've been at the RED event ? Have you receive your PRO FORMA invoice Alan was talking about ?

You can mark my words and bring them up later any time you want.
Some of the ABSOLUTE best looking movies that will come out over the next several years will be shot on SCARLET.
Im talking HUGE big budget, low budget, no budget, successful, award winning, popular, 2D & 3D Features, Music Videos, Commercials and wholly CRAP so many TV shows, will be on Scarlet.
This camera will dominate the market at all levels.
Make no mistake about it.
....
The field is now even when it comes to the tools in your hands.
NO BS.
Luis
This post scared me a bit in a good way, Scarlet is real ... concept is finally hitting my brain ... there will be no excuses for not achieving something great ... if my movie sucks ... cause i suck. [damn i need to improve my script right now]

I agree 100% BigLu.

And for the people saying their isn't Scarlet footage, I have an answer. Yes their is. Go find it!

Tonaci has put up 2 or 3 tests, I myself have put up one, and there are others at their.

:)

:-) Watch this space... it's nowhere near 5 - 10 years away. 4K is the future without a shadow of doubt.

ooo...this sounds good :D

A codec for web delivery that shrinks 4K files without over compressing?

Can't wait, I don't want to wait 5-10 years, so definitely watching and ready

4K Uploads are available already, good for the future of course but as of now most of our audiences will have to choose lower resolutions until ISP's provide way more bandwidth to handle it.

Try playing one of these at the "original" setting and not 1080p etc.

Its a personal request maybe others also maybe want to see it. But I really need to know big the camera is when fitted wth a Canon lens and side handle. I would love to see a few minute video that showed a set up and also gave some idea of scale comparing it to say a 5D or other objects so we can see how big this camera is. Much apreciated if someone could do this.

Scarlet-X is gonna be around for awhile.

In many ways it's like the new HVX200(2005)_5D MkII(2008)_Scarlet-X(2011)

if only it was in my hands... :/ def sooner than later
