Woah the SCARLET is the real deal, BEST CAMERA available today & it will Dominate.

The very best camera you can purchase anywhere for under $40,000 is a Scarlet.
I own multiple EPICS so to see the Scarlets footage made me a 150% believer.

To this point I have personally seen EPIC 5K - 4K - 3K and 2K footage presented on multiple 4K projectors on screens bigger than most theaters.
I should know what size the screen is at RED studios but i don't. You just have to believe me its HUGE.
Someone in here will give me that size soon im sure.

Its no secret that the EPIC footage is as good as it gets. Only film can do what this footage can achieve on the screen.
REDone has been king of resolution till the EPICs arrival.

Anyhow my point is this.

I have shot for 2 days on the Scarlett and seen projected in 4K on this huge screen I don't have words for it, perhaps WHOLLY SHIT!!! ?

You can mark my words and bring them up later any time you want.
Some of the ABSOLUTE best looking movies that will come out over the next several years will be shot on SCARLET.
Im talking HUGE big budget, low budget, no budget, successful, award winning, popular, 2D & 3D Features, Music Videos, Commercials and wholly CRAP so many TV shows, will be on Scarlet.
This camera will dominate the market at all levels.
Make no mistake about it.

The 6 to 1 compression, 4K resolution, 24FPS on screen with PL Glass and even Canon glass is as good as FILM and or EPIC. YA I SAID IT.
YOU WILL NOT again YOU WILL NOT be able to tell the difference. Put up 10 images of each on the screen and you wont be able to tell me which is which.
Put the Scarlet in the hands of a DP who can shoot, and a Colorist whom can grade and its OVER.

It is by a land slide the absolute best camera anywhere in the world for under $40,000 USD.

The Quantum shift forward that the DVX-100 did for guys like me with little money over a DECADE ago.
( THANK YOU Mr. BERRY GREEN for teaching me all you did )
The REVOLUTION that camera did for independent guys working out of there bedrooms, will have a 2nd coming.
This Is the same thing the Scarlet will do for the world.

The field is now even when it comes to the tools in your hands.

A Scarlet for under 10K or Canon package for under 15K is untouchable by any camera manufacture anywhere.

I don't even know what to say.
Its the Power of an EPIC in the palm of your hand. ( im talking 24fps )

For the price point there is nothing else to consider at all.
No contest, not even a discussion.

So many of your guys dreams are gonna come true.

LUCKY BASTARDS.

I knew and always felt it would be great. But this is something different.

NO BS.

Double Scarlet all the way!

Seriously though, this post makes the wait for the shipping seem minuscule. I look forward to seeing what this camera will do.

I'd love to see an EFP REDCAM anyway.

Scarlet & EPIC are both cinema cameras and it's great for cinema use. Unfortunately, not everyone does cinema features or 35 mm music videos.

Have to second what Luis says. I've been having an amazing week at Reducation, I've shot quite a bit with the Scarlet under the guidance of Tonaci,
and am fortunate to be one of the very first to ever see their Scarlet footage projected in 4K on a huge screen.
You really have to see it to believe it.

It's... epic. :wink5:

It's interesting comparing Epic and Scarlet footage shot on the same day.
At 4K, 23.98fps, 6:1, there is no difference. At those settings, it really is the same camera. Un-freakin-believable.

Aside from the Epic's high-speed framerates (which are awesome), the only difference between the Scarlet and Epic is the paintjob.

Thanks BigLu fab to hear and very important.

But where's the footage being posted! there seems to be hardly any, why!

Why not post this red education footage on here! or any footage. So far barely one minute footage posted.
Least with Canon C300 there's plenty of footage out there and hands on demos around the country.

Im not a not a doubter but just pointing out fact and getting a bit fed up of you guys saying and not showing
how good in words it is but where's the footage posted!

How does it translate/res down to 1080p on internet! this is where most of my work goes.

Most people will use Scarlet for internet TV corporate, NOT for the 43 foot screens

So please lets see some real examples on here.

Many thanks

And yes l do have a scarlet on order

Andrew I hear you so loud and clear.
Posting footage would be so sweet and flat our right.

However we have 65 students whom are focused, coming from all over the world to absorb learn and get hands on experience with EPIC and Scarlet cameras, post workflow, 3D, and everything else you can think of. A hell of a great time from morning till night, even the after hours is seriously amazing.

Its only a matter of days before youll have more Scarlet footage to view then youll be able to handle. The world is shooting Scarlet now.
Sit tight and hang on its coming.

Bet on it.

If your scaling it down though doesn't that seem to kind of kill the point?

I mean rather that everyone says these are different cameras but I think Big Lu was trying to point out that they are basically the same, just one has more compression ability and does 5K...

If you shrink 4K down to 1080p, it'll look like most 1080p footage on the net, hence the GH2 versus EPIC/Scarlet thing seems rather pointless...

If it works well on a 43 foot screen why won't it do well on the internet?

Though Tonaci does have a few examples flying around and there is sure to be more footage...
I think generally if you did a side by side on the net of EPIC and Scarlet you'd find that you couldn't tell the difference...especially if all things are equal on both cameras...

I'd probably suggest posting up a clip and having everyone take a poll...which is EPIC and which is Scarlet...A or B...

But I do agree with Big Lu, tons of projects will be shot on the Scarlet...I think the whole difference speaks towards what Jannard was saying back before EPIC was released to the public that frame rates cost money...thats all its really down to...

You could ask for a 2000 frame a second camera from RED, put an order of 20 in and well...you'd get it,maybe but I think in the end it'd be cheaper just to buy yourself a Phantom :)

EDIT:

There will be tons of footage of Scarlet and EPIC on the net, the thing is, most will compare it to the C300 and 5D M2 and say its the same...unless you start using 4K/2K on YouTube and the compression is very light...but that'd be killing on the bandwidth of most users I think

This sort of presses the question as to when bandwidth technology will mature to allow 2k / 4k delivery

I'm ready BigLu..! I don't doubt what your saying for one second..!

Hey guys! Definitely an eye-opener seeing Scarlet footage today at 4k which fully validates Scarlet fitting the bill.

Why no footage? people probably rented their scarlets out to clients and/or are busy. =)

I do have new footage to share and an article releasing this weekend that will have side by side comparisons with Epic. Scarlet (can you tell the difference).
Canon 7d vs Red Scarlet - same canon lens. =)

But I know for sure I won't be the only one posting. So many Scarlets have delivered! =)

This sort of presses the question as to when bandwidth technology will mature to allow 2k / 4k delivery

I highly doubt in the next say 2 years to 4 years we will see internet providers allowing for such a possibility, I mean fibre should technically allow for 2K delivery at the least right? Problem is where those that face say throttling or bandwidth caps will not be able to enjoy such content and that

could potentially be a lot of the market who has bandwidth caps...I'm not sure if thats the internet providers being greedy or if thats to help keep the flow of the internet constant but it will only probably happen in 5-10 years time. Well before that we will have 4K displays and 4K deliverables similar to BluRay. After that has changed things will move towards 2K and then 4K, though there is the odd potential factor that they may jump straight to pushing 4K...f Panasonic and all enter the game you can be sure if they provide Scarlet pricing 4K cameras or cheaper you'll be seeing 4K displays at pretty cheap prices before 2020. Why sell a camera when you can't sell the content that the camera produces at the resolution you invested in right?

But having that option and getting tons of Scarlets out and loading up 4K content from Scarlet to YouTube will definitely help a lot...Scarlet will dominate a lot in 2012 and even more in 2013

I agree with everything you say - I think we're a long way off ISPs offering the capability.

Thanks BigLu,

The most enjoyable and exciting post I've read for a while on RU. Greatly wish I could afford to fly out from Oz and REDucate myself. But that would mean giving up on some of my crucial lens budget :(

Don't suppose you guys are filming the days, and have plans on a REDucation DVD series being released anytime soon?
Would be of huge benefit to many thousands I'm sure.

So looking forward to making some cinema with my Scarlet when she arrives!!

Thanks again

Best Wishes

Lliam

Great post, Luis. :-)

It's hard to believe that Scarlet and EPIC have exactly the same image quality when shooting 4K 24FPS...

:-) Watch this space... it's nowhere near 5 - 10 years away. 4K is the future without a shadow of doubt.

As far-fetched as it seems, I'd love to see a 2k/4k 'Screening Room' on reduser.net

It seems like Red are constantly having to bring industries kicking and screaming up to a new standard :)

I'm not looking to burst anyone's bubble here but Scarlet is a less featured Epic at a lower price correct?

Thusly the footage should be exactly the same at the same compression ratio/frame size as an Epic no? So it should be no surprise that it looks as good and performs as well as it does.

The biggest bonus factor, it seems to me in market domination, is the price point which is perfect.

The formula for the future I think will be: More productions buying Scarlets and renting Epics.
