  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WISHLIST for Scarlet's "Undefined Specs"

Exactly. Same goes for Epic.
24-bit sound? Guys, that's fine, but what kind of noise levels do you expect from itty-bitty preamps in such a camera? If 24/96 requires any extra engineering time at all, forget it. Better to spend that time on a digital input so you can use an external A/D converter and dictate your own quality forever.

Great idea. A digital input would be ideal. Keep the sound quick and dirty for non-critical run and gun type stuff but with the ability to use external pres and converters when you need it.

Well, yeah, we've been asking for that one since, well, before Red One came out.

With Scarlet I personally don't think there's budget to do this, so I'd rather they put EVERY PENNY into sensor and ergonomics instead.

AFAIK I'm fine with Scarlet having cheap on-board A/D converters for consumers - as long as she takes good pictures and also has TC out so we can sync up with real audio recorders.

If Red wants to surprise us all by supporting digital audio input from a Sound Devices USBpre connected to Scarlet's USB port, I'm fine with that too of course ;)

n+1)n+7) Wide lens (~8-64mm)
I think that 2/3-inch focal lengths are about one third their 35-mm motion-picture equivalents, so 8 mm would be about 24-25 mm. I'm kind of torn -- I'd like to see something a little wider (i.e., 6 mm), but I don't want to give up the long end. It's too bad that it's not a 10x lens, but that would add substantially to size, weight, and cost and reduce speed.

Nice list, Zak -- although I hate OIS, wi-fi, etc. Red, leave out inelegant features (inelegant = lots of added complexity, little added benefit). KISS. My 2¢:

- full-size XLR jacks, not mini
- mic/line/+48v levels

definitely something to be said for keeping it simple. my fear is that with a camera this small, handheld camera work will be difficult to keep relatively stable. for example... here is the HV20 with OIS turned off...

I'd like a button that I can press that makes the entire project finish itself, from concept through editing and delivery. Would this be too much to ask for?

Maybe just an idiot sensor. When it senses a bad production, it self destructs to prevent us from having to see another "Ultraviolet" *shudders*

3. OIS, optical image stabalization
7. manual control of exposure, gain, etc that doesn't require you to dig thru the menu. would prefer tangible dials and button.
9. wifi timecode sync between Scarlets

These plus:

10. Ability to sync to an incoming timecode.

Would make it the best multicam cam ever!!!!!!!!!:weight_lift: :weight_lift:

1. true focus ring, none of that free spinning Sony-style nonsense. lockable for 35mm adapters.
2. manual zoom room, tight, responsive (and lockable for 35mm adapters)
...
6. 2.39:1 aspect ratio guides (positionable higher or lower in the frame)
7. manual control of exposure, gain, etc that doesn't require you to dig thru the menu. would prefer tangible dials and button.

These are the big ones for me. I hadn't thought about 2.39, but I would really like that. As for the other ones, they are features that I would expect from a real professional camera, so I'm sure RED will put them in.

3. OIS, optical image stabalization
4. 48khz, 16bit audio, 2 channels at a minimum, 96khz, 24bit, 4 channels as an ideal.
5. waveform monitoring built-in to the LCD
6. 2.39:1 aspect ratio guides (positionable higher or lower in the frame)
7. manual control of exposure, gain, etc that doesn't require you to dig thru the menu. would prefer tangible dials and button.
8. flip mode - for 35mm adapter users
9. wifi timecode sync between Scarlets

Great list, OIS not a must but all the other points are dead on.

I also second the "No Whining" request. Why is it that there is so much complaining about a camera that will be worlds ahead of the completion, when it come to the market.

Thank you RED!

I'd like wi-fi sync for Timecond AND transport-commands like record and stop...

Would be nice to place two scarlets at fixed positions and have a third that moves (stady or so) and controlls the others...

Ah, and the png as guide. Cool Idea. And shouldn't be that hard to implement.

Viva la REDvolution
