Hi everyone,

Tried searching the boards and manual to solve this issue but now it´s time to turn to you guys.

We have not been able to pair our mote with our Scarlet wirelessly. Everything works while the mote is attached on the body but every attempt to get it to function remotely have failed.
I am at loss on this issue. Is there some setting I´m missing on the camera to turn its wireless functions on? My best guess would be the problem being on the cameras end since all icons etc. are lit on the mote.
Anyone with similar problems?

Hi Paul, did you try Settings -> Redmote -> Scan for REDmotes? In REDmote button 1 allows you to rescan for the camera.

I was always under the impression the Redmote required some other box attached to the place the Redmote can be hard mounted, in order for it to be used remotely. Of course that's just an impression I had, since I don't own the Redmote. I tried to find info on the product page, and it's like 2 sentences.

Nope.. incorrect. REDmote in wireless mode and in attached mode communicates directly to the camera, no need for an adaptor.

Try pairing the Redmote when it is attached to the camera body.
Settings>Setup>REDmote Then with "Attached REDmote" selected, click "Pair REDmote".
You should then see a long alphanumeric code which is ID of the attached Redmote.

Now detach the Redmote from the body. It'll then start searching for the camera. It will apparently fail, with a dialogue box giving options to Rescan. Choose "Default".
Don't know why except that it's probably a bug - but that worked for the Epic I hired - I would expect Scarlet to behave the same.

"Default" is the name of the camera. You can change the camera's name in Settings->Setup->Communication.

If you have the REDmote paired with more than one camera you would see each listed (assuming they were powered on and within range)

Yep...Default (camera name) sometimes confuses folks...AND make sure you have proper versions of firmware on camera & redmote...that happened to me once...and was an easy fix....but this is now really easy to pair the redmote with camera....

The cam is on a shoot at the moment but the onset DP followed the instructions and voila - it worked.

Going to put the stupid hat on now and leave quietly. :) Thank you all for the swift responses and help. Have to yet again acknowledge the awesome support group that is reduser.

I think that is a great idea. The word default is so generic - it could be used (and probably is) in so many situations that it might not even cross ones mind that it is actually referring to the brain.

Can someone comment on how essential REDMOTE is...Did not order as part of my original package and wondering if I gonna wish I had.

Thanks.

I gave it a run on a shoot recently and it's decent. That said, I canned my order for it. Touchscreen and sidehandle seem to be more popular choices for folks on the board and I reckon they'll do me just fine. I'm not 100% sold on the reliabilty of current units based on board feedback - even the 'reliable' unit I was using had some gremlins... Hopefully the kinks will be worked out in firmware updates.

Like i said, my experience was positive but i'm pocketing cash and waiting for the very distant Redmote Pro.

Unsure how essential it will be to you and your workflow, but I just ordered one on last day of Feb, what I thought was the last day before the price increase.

It's still $550. FYI The price increase to $750 will not hit until it is out of back order (they just changed this).

I have it - thought I would use it because my cam is often on a jib arm… but I think it will end up living in it's little case on a shelf in the equipment room. Touch screen seems to cover me 99% of the time, and I'm even wondering how much use the side handle will be when it arrives next week.

Mine didn't work until I pushed the button that put it into "local" mode.

Here's the earlier thread:

Side handle with touch screen is the way to go. The 2 mesh together operationally really well. Also side handle makes it feel like a different camera.

Redmote "Default" comment is now noted I was wondering whats was going on with mine now I know!

It's not essential, but I've gotten so used to it that regardless of the wireless function, even when not using that my camera feels naked if I'm using it without the Redmote. If the camera has power to it but is not on, I remove the Redmote because the camera drains its battery. But if I'm in standby or the camera is on, so is the Redmote.
