  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Win a Set of O-Grips!!!

I also tried a variety of things, like a helmet cam (though i need a rear counter weight to make it fully work). And even though it's been covered, I gotta say the ability to quickly grab a sandbag and use the ogrips as a front kickstand is really badass

Lastly, and this probably won't count as inventive idea, but on my last day of use I used them in conjunction with the Easyrig and they were awesome!!!

Not only were they great to use as standard grips, but then I wanted to do low-mount (an easy 1.5 sec changeup on an Easyrig) and then my Ogrips kept up, couple of twists and my handles were now facing UP and out for awesome low mode control! Then I needed to, while still on the easyrig, put the camera on a pool table for a closeup. Guess what? Slipped the ogrips back and they were awesome.

My humbel ideas.

1. To fit a dedo or small kinoflo on a wall or ceilling. And still have all the adjustment room. Using a grip, C-clamp, etc at the one site. And the light fixture on the other.

2. Bold down atlease 4 on a cheeseplate for a easy adjusteble steady camera platform, for exemple a side car rig, on a boat, or tracking vehicle. With o'grip it would be easier to get the right angles, level it out or flip the rig. And changing the set-up very vast again. (wou'll might need some extention rods, clamps or suction cups)

3. Three o'grips joint as a mini or lowmode tripote. (spider mode) It could clamp around a tree or a pole.

4. With a strap to fit it on a zoomlens. To easy reach and fast adjusting the zoom. (if the o'grip isn't to heavy, and there is enough frixtion in the zoom lens)

5. On a boom pole, or camera rig to give more adjusting freedom when putting on a mic. In a camera rig when using a mattebox, the mic often needs repositioning. Put on two and you can adjust the stereo set up with two mics.

and no.6

Bracket for red upcomming remote and/or sidegrip-remote on the side handel O'grip. What makes it easy to control the camera while oparating handheld/ shoulder rig.

Now we’re getting somewhere!

Really nice stuff Shawn...I also like what the rest of you guys are thinking.

Let's keep it going.

Sorry for the simple drawings, unfortunitly I can't get my hands on a set.
I would to love try or see some of these ideas.

With a T-bracket, 3 O'grips and optional click/fix on shoulder pad, and Redremote-bracket it gives a couple of new option. Mini-tripote, Clamp it on, 3-point leverler and a Quick shoulder rig.

Mainly these are for quick set-up, good for docu-makers, journalist and indy

Just a reminder to everyone that NAB is quickly approaching where we will announce the contest winners.

So, if you still have O-Grip use ideas and want the chance to win a set- get those posts up soon…

we love our 0-grips, specially the fast way to change configuration.
easy01.jpg

With "the highest payload capacity of any ball jointed system- up to 44 lbs" they're stronger than magic arms, so they could replace magic arms where a higher load capacity is required.

Use a bunch of them in series as an impromptu monopod.

Use a bunch of them in a U shape attached to a camera top plate as a moving handheld low mode rig for a camera to skim the floor - if you don't have a Steadicam handy.

Use them to bridge across car seats as a configurable car mount for interiors.
Ie. Rod bridge in the middle, as many O-Grips either side as needed to bridge the gap between car seat head rests (secured with superclamps or even just gaffer tape.. Camera rods go in the rod bridge and back of camera is supported by the camera man, small stand, or more O-Grips in monopod mode.

Form a spherical camera cage with a whole load of them and then kick it around for that soccer ball POV!

Form a camera crash cage for when the camera needs a bit of mechanical protection in an exposed position.

Make a sculpture out of them for O'Connor Headquarter's lobby!

Maybe a double helix to signify a new camera grip DNA.

Jim was so kind to lent me a pair of O'grips.
I am still testing and coming with more ideas but here is the first series with O'grips in a car rig.
The first thing I noticed is that they are much stronger then meets the eye (per joint ca. 20kg).
These are a must for grip/ gaffa/ and dop too.
With these O'grips it is very to adjust any angles, balance or flip the whole rig.
The rig was about 12 kg (camera about 6kg with plate)
