Hi Guys,

Just wondering with SO 996 for a Canon AI mount ordered on 3rd Nov ,can I see a blast of SCARLET Canon AI mounts next week so that I can have a Christmas or a New Year Gift........

We all are waiting still. Jarek is in the 880's if I remember right. I'm in the 0945 range. You can check out the update in the Backorders thread in Recon, where it said they were ramping production but not much else. It seems as if they've been sending out Scarlets even AL's to those outside the list, they seem to have blogs and sites. I've noticed this with PL's to as there are some that were ordered in December that have gone out while those that ordered on the 4th are still waiting. They say it's by queue but it seems there is something other than the list and timestamps happening. Not saying it's wrong it just makes it really hard to figure out what is actually happening, maybe that is there intention, although i'm sure it's to get is many out to us as possible.

Remember a few thousand of us are in the same boat. Red is doing there best as they have been down this road before with the Red One, and now Epic and Scarlet.

Not to be an ass about it and this is not directed at any one person at all (especially you guys in this thread). I recommend looking elsewhere in the meantime (possibly all together if you're going to constantly bitch) if you're not prepared to be patient. I've waited for nearly 3 years to simply place an order on Scarlet S35/ Epic Lite/ Epic-S/ Scarlet-X...as you know it has been an ever changing landscape and the finish line is in sight!

It is foolish to complain about not being able to schedule projects, etc. Rent a damn camera if you need too, otherwise take a step back (a much needed breath of fresh air) and realize you are in a crazy good position. You are in line for the most sought after, affordable, top-of-the-line digital cinema camera system ever created! Expect delays and a long wait. Doing otherwise is foolish and will only drive you crazy, lose you paid gigs, and distract the Red elves from their work!

I hate to say it because i dont want my order purposfuly delayed ;) but i'm preparing myself for a several month (hell possibly a year long because you never know what tomorrow will bring ala Japan earthquake) And by the way, yes I ordered in the first two hours on Nov. 3rd.

My philosophy for everything Red is "better late than never at all!"

Well, this is my very first post on here, mostly signed up to just see the screenshots from people posting from their scarlet, but this has just been on my mind.

I think people are upset because Red has now physically taken our money and not given us a product. We've all paid the same but others are getting their orders before others. Yes, Red is a slightly more high-end consumer brand, I understand that they're not making 7Ds, but they should have anticipated, as you said Adam, because they made "the most sought after, affordable, top-of-the-line digital cinema camera ever created" that they were going to get mass orders. Did they really think order amounts were going to match those of the Epic and One? I just think they should have prepared themselves for what they were getting into before they started taking people's money.

Sorry for my rant. I'll introduce myself/my work to everyone later this evening.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm SO0050865, 7:32pm phone order, was at the event. AL canon Mount.

Just keep in mind that the camera you are buying is one of the world's best products, and will allow you to make some very pretty pictures.

If you have a project to shoot there are a few people with Scarlets and many with Epics and Red Ones out there who will rent them to you, especially since winter is notoriously slow for shooting (well not for me / been a busy month)

Have you even been allocated yet Dan?

No allocation yet.

Im not stressed because I know it will come, and I own an Epic M. But confused why I was not allocated before some that went to people not actually at the event.

Not a big deal - I know Red has my back. I'm actually okay with the Cinema5D guys getting it before me because it's good PR against Red-Haters. They are fairly objective and somewhat balanced over there.

it seems like the al mount is slow....
i wonder if i can switch and get a camera quicker.

I haven't gotten my Al Canon Scarlet and I was at the event. Brent told me I may have a nice holiday season, but I know of all the delays that could occur.

I agree that people should be patient (and people should be happy, honest, sincere, friendly) but people are people and do what they do. I think where I could fault RED is in making announcements about shipping dates and proclamations of dramatically ramped up production, when, in fact, their announcement strategy and timing was based far more on marketing and positioning against competition than their ability to deliver the product in a timely manner to paid depositors. If they wanted to show the world how many units they could deliver from an improved production facility, they would have waited another 6 months to build up supply to a couple thousand units, and then made the announcement.

Through thousands of deposits, RED have significantly increased their cash on-hand by several million dollars. Since that cash is volatile (refundable), presumably RED is going to be pretty careful about how quickly they deliver balanced against the performance/reliability of the cameras.

But I agree, we're getting into a time when they need to step it up a bit.
Perhaps Red is counting on or using that several million $ in deposit cash to help fund, at least partially, the ramp-up in production capacity they need. "If you pay, we will build it."

As I am a young (in Cinematography) Shooter, and used everything I had to get a scarlet (#980, haven't received yet) I understand the frustration of people who were told "Ships Dec. 1st" and nothing comes. However, that doesn't mean RED isn't trying to get these cameras fulfilled. A little more communication would be nice, but ultimately, if we wanted/needed a camera now... then go buy/rent another camera now. Scarlet is going to come. We are going to love her. And everything will soon be a distant memory of emotion, leading to the bliss in our hands, and the beauty on our screens. Take your time RED. Thanks for doing what you do.

I don't think you can consider Red as a startup any longer. They have been around for a while now and pretty well establish. They should be turning profit as well. But whether Red is a startup or private is irrelevant in the conversation. You've got to deliver on you promises. I thought that one of the messages that Red got out on Nov 3rd was that they will have a good amount of units ready ship come announced shipping date. Otherwise, they should have pushed back the shipping date till they're ready to fulfill orders in timely fashion, which I don't think is the case right now. I only say this based on the fact that not a single Canon AL mount has been shipped (for the exception of special cases) since December 1st.

I had put in my order on the 3rd and within first 500 order according to the SO#. But at this rate, I'm not expecting mine to ship till February or even later.

Red is a startup company. It is also a private company. Oakley for example is still a private company.

Red is not a startup, they have been around for a number of years and are bringing in healthy revenue. Oakley is no longer a private company it is owned by Luxottica.

Sorry for my rant.

It's not a rant.

They are valid questions.

Welcome to Reduser.

I guess I will say it again more directly. This isn't a case of RED not anticipating demand. This is about marketing and positioning their product against a competitor's. It's a case of RED announcing a product, and accepting money for it, before they were ready to deliver it. The deposits have given them a nice infusion of cash on hand while they try to ramp up production. Meanwhile, you wait. Had they made the announcement and opened orders in 6 months, with 1,000 units on the shelf ready to ship and more coming off the line every day, they would have been taking a more measured professional approach, but would have lost market to Canon. So they jumped in, risked a little discontent, positioned themselves well against the competition, and have helped finance their ramp up through deposits for cameras weeks away from their ability to deliver. They're betting that cash is safe because they think we'll wait. Most of us will.

Adding my own voice here... I just ordered the Scarlet-X and then read about the delays and adjusted my delivery expectations accordingly. While I have countless projects and public pieces that would seem to not only benefit my business and my clients, it would probably have a nice residual kick back to RED as well, I can appreciate the long waiting list and the time they are spending getting things right.

As a business owner, I can also appreciate their stepping stone production line. It seems unlikely that RED will ever suffer from sitting on a mountain of unused inventory and, in the end, that means their tightly run ship will probably continue to produce cool stuff for our little community for a long time to come. I'm all for that.

I guess in the end what I'm saying is, waiting isn't fun and I wish I didn't have to, but it is what it is. Understandable.
