  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Scarlet take over the HVX200

IMO all Scarlet needs to be an EX1 and HVX killer is a bigger sensor and RedCODE RAW.

Somehow I think it will be more than that.

Maybe the "pocket" thing is a metaphor and it means that the camera will be affordable for people with shallow pockets. :)

If Scarlett could hit these marks it would really challenge that HVX-EX1 market.

1080P or 2K REDCODE RAW
Interchangeable lenses
Incredible low light performance
Solid State
Complete integration with FCP
Under $10,000

Of course, for all we know, Scarlet is something completely different, in a class of its own and won't need to compete with the other cameras. NAB will be fun.

I hope it will, so we dont have to talk about the HVX200 any more.
I want 2K..........you know why ? It sounds better than 1080p !
thats the whole point !
And 1080p sounds better that 720p !

thats it ! what else do you need ????

The HVX200 does\did perfectly its job in history. At least for me.

Things (are always subject to) change.

We always want more, and we always will.

But we often forget the now, and it's most important.

There's a writing on a wall near a Hindu temple (somewhere in (h)India).

It says:

"Today".

...

My 1c.

35mm equivelant DOF / FOV

I hope it will, so we dont have to talk about the HVX200 any more.

I'm sure that Scarlet will definitely give pause to those thinking of purchasing an EX1. Yet why all the speculation tends to pit Scarlet against Sony or Panasonic, others are emerging.

Ikonoscope is introducing their own 2K A-cam at NAB also. Should be an interesting month.

One point wasn´t discussed enough: reliablility. That holds me off to purchase an EX1 but how will it be with a Scarlet in Europe? It might be a different story in California where you have Jim "next door". Honestly I´m waiting for a HVX200b at NBA because it should be that rugged to be called professional. Only if the Scarlet really rocks and will be out soon I would take the risk and buy one.

Rugged? 30min after using an HVX the focus ring barely spins because so much dust has collected inside the thing. Have fun using the built in mic after that point.

Where have you been shooting? In a sandstorm? The HVX is not known to be an easily to weck camera. Of course you can always push something over it´s limits. I must admit here that I don´t have any long term experience with the HVX but when I put my hands on it it felt really rugged and I never heard or red any generalized complaint about its fiability.

Me too. I've had mine in some rotten weather and challenging places and no problems at all.

For the most part it's pretty solid. The battery slot had tabs that would break off (I think Pany fixed this on newer builds), and dirt/sand getting into the focus ring is still a common problem. Turn your focus ring, feel that? Me too.

i think for the Scarlet to replace the hvx200 or ex1 it would have to be buyable
at stores across the world without waiting periods.. Unless they can be mass produced and delivered quickly? but we still have mail customs to worry about.
