The main reason to own a Red Rocket is to achieve fast transcodes and display a real time, full debayer on your monitor of choice. Am I mostly correct here?

With the impending release of Final Cut Pro 8 tomorrow will the need to transcode go away? Will the new FCP have the ability to display a full debayer or is that a problem solved only with extra hardware?

For various reasons I have held off purchasing a Red Rocket. Should I continue to hold off as the main needs of the card may now go away?

The footage still needs to be processed - even if you can edit the R3D directly. Without a RED ROCKET, you can only edit real time at 1/8 or 1/4 resolution. This will change over time as CPUs and GPUs become more and more powerful, but for the time being to view full debayer you will still need a ROCKET.

The question though is will FCP support the RED ROCKET card. I very much hope so.

Red Rocket II. That sounds like something I could go for. Premier handles R3D natively but at what debayer setting does it play back? I'm with Jonathan that I doubt Apple will support Red Rocket for playback, but stranger things have happened in this world.

Has anyone heard any talk of a Red Rocket II?

Well i don't mind paying for an RR2 even though I have an RR1, I'm sure RED would firmware update it to handle the 5K, it wouldn't run at full speed but I guess they'll do RR2 when FF35 comes out? I mean that would make sense since RR1 handles Mysterium stuff and RR2 handles Monstro and so forth for the future, RR3 etc.

The cost of living without a REd Rocket is twice the price to build a capable system. If you have patience you can live without it. But The Red Rocket is a godsend for debayering speed. RedLogfilm2 is amazing

Wouldn't be able to use my Red if not for the Rocket. Don't see the need going away anytime soon but would be nice if it were supported in more softeare

if you live and breathe RED day in day out. rocket is a essential tool in your arsenal hands down. the amount of time it saves you, and the increasing support for it make it that much more worthwhile by the day.
