I'm having a fairly serious issue at the moment. When I turn on my RED after a period of inactivity (say 3-4hrs) the LCD display just shows a scrambled predominantly white image where the sensor image usually is.

The image it shows is made up of repeating short thin bands of color (white, red, green, blue) in small tiles (1/2" squares), which repeat as a tiled pattern across the whole sensor area of the LCD screen. But, the rest of the camera menus and HUID seem to work fine.

When the LCD is displaying the tiled pattern the camera gives ROCKETRIO errors when you press the record button, or when you try and play anything back from the drive.

I seem to be able to solve the issue by re-installing build 16 each time it happens. And the sensor then displays an image as normal again. The real problem is that the issue is happening 2-3 times a day.

I don't think it is a simple LCD issue, but I can't test it as I'm in the field on a shoot, and only have one LCD on me.

Has any one seen this issue before, and did they have a fix for it?
(I have contacted RED support but thought I'd try here too.)

Its a practical solution!! LOL

OFF TOPIC
Compliments for you iPhone App. very usefull

Any one able to help?

I haven't heard anything from RED tech support yet... I assume they don't work weekends.

Edit:

I have found a stop gap solution that some of you may find funny. It seems that the issue with the camera is the temperature. When it is cold I get the weird sensor image, when it is hot I don't.

So I am now carrying a hairdryer everywhere on the shoot with me... people either think I'm insane.. or very, very, vain.

Hi Ed

I've seen this before but instead of rocketio errors the camera was failing to boot even with the old remove all cables trick. It is definitely a build install problem.

You may have had a dud download of the build which didn't transfer correctly. Try redownloading and installing again or maybe try an earlier build install to see if that solves it.

Good luck!

Hey Jeff,

I glad I'm not the only one to have ever seen this.
Although, in my case it's not the firmware that is the issue.

It looks like there is a conductivity issue which fixes it self as the camera heats up (and I guess the boards/solder expand). The reason I think the firmware reinstall worked is because during the install process the camera was heating itself up, and by the time the firmware was fully installed the camera was warm enough to run smoothly.

Hopefully I'll be able to get my RED fixed after I finish this shoot, until then... hairdryer at the ready!

Yeah, Ed, we are definitely going to need to get that RED ONE in for eval.

Thanks, BC

Hi Ed,
Last Sunday we've had exactly the same problem. We still cannot reach anyone from the Red Company, therefore we still don't know what causes this problem.Do you have an idea? And what about a solution to the problem?Have you reached/been given one and if yes, could you help us too, please.
Thanks in advance,
Simeon
camera technician of Red One 1404

Simeon you can contact me directly. That is a case where we will need to bring the camera in for a full evaluation.
