We are just getting ready to embark on the 2nd running of our REDucation X class - our 16 week movie school we started 6 months ago at RED Studios Hollywood, and was successful in training 15 talented and eager students from all over the world on the Digital movie making process using our RED EPIC cameras.

We are in the last stages of taking applicants now for the class at the end of March, there are a few more slots available, so if you are interested in joining us, email reducationx@red.com and we will get in touch with you.

In our very first REDucationX we Produced, Shot, Edited and DI Finished 15 Ultra High Resolution Digital short movies in 15 weeks, with each student helming one project and crewing on the key positions on all the other projects.

In the midst of all that fantastic madness, we were able to bring in some high caliber working professionals from the various parts of our Industry, that are just as passionate about education as we are, to give guest lectures, and help the students get their projects off the ground and in shape for shooting and post.

It was a really inspiring few months to see our students take what would typically be taught over a number of years in a traditional film school, and focus on the real "let's go make a movie" parts in an accelerated program every week, full on for almost 4 months.

We had so much fun that we decided we should do it again, and put ourselves through the wonderful torture of making another 15 or so short movies in a few months :-)

Here's a link to an article that MovieMaker magazine ran a few days ago that talks in more detail about why we set out on this journey to educate in a new, more streamlined and modern way (new tools require new knowledge and new ways of thinking as many of you know)

Awesome opportunity for people starting out. If I could clear my schedule, I'd probably take the class too. Always stuff to learn. And by actually making movies, you learn the whole process, including all of the technical and the creative/producing side too. It's a good approach.

Thanks Steve,

it's been really interesting seeing this thing come to life. along with all the other things we've been doing to advance the technical art of movie making.

Love the concept of a "RED Conservatory":
"TS: Like a trade school, but more art focused. A conservatory is a better way to describe it—a RED conservatory. A place where projects are always happening and students are always working to build things. I would like it to be a much more immersive environment. Real world skills, real world tools."

I think your next revolution is changing the art of story telling.
I personally would love to go to class that would walk through heavy nuke r3d workflows with vfx integration(i.e. exact workflows they did for "the girl with the dragon tatoo", "prometheus", "hobbit", etc).

There was a day I was over at RSH Ted and I sort of spied on you while you were doing your thing with some students. Really loving the way you're going about it.

REDucation-X is really a fantastic program. I highly recommend it!

I was fortunate to be able to help teach some parts of the class as well as offer guidance in Directing and Cinematography. It is wonderfully intense...

Carpe Diem!
