In setting up our Scarlet Camera, I decided to change the frame rate from 29.97fps to 30fps. But, in so doing, the 30fps indicator at the top/left of the screen, is now yellow instead of white.

What does that mean, and is it bad?

The other settings are: 1/48sec shutter, RC9:1, 4K-HD.

And, yes, after rebooting the camera it did not change.

Thanks.

:)

It means your current recording speed is not the same as your project settings.
Basically a warning for you that you are in a "VARISPEED" mode...

EDIT: It also means you will not be able to record audio while in VARISPEED mode. For that your project settings must match your recording speed - i.e. 29.97 in both...

EDIT2: And this goes for everyone - before you use equipment such as the Scarlet , please take the time and read the user manual freely downloadable from:

Think Red should add a "no audio" sign in the gui for these of project speed... no?

Edit: I think the camera should record audio at project speed no matter what framerate if audio is not turned of....

I rather have a short little audio clip from my overcranked shot than no audio. And having to change project frame rate to get it is a hassle especially since it messes up timecodes for post quite a bit... so allways toss the audio file into the clip. If possible even as a non destructive time remap applied when hitting play. I love slomo sound even when the bitrate is low :)

Panasonic had to add a No Audio icon to the screen on the AF100 after many customers complained that it wasn't obvious when doing varispeed. I also like your idea of recording the audio regardless of speed. Not sure if it't possible though.

Should be possible... it's kind of what happens when you set your project speed to lets say 50fps and then render out in red cine to 25 fps.... you get a clip with audio synced on the first frame but only lasting half the clip length.

For timelapse... I do not know... then I guess you would get a clip with the audio "sticking out" in the end of the clip... :)
