  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why Canon sucks balls.

Michael, while you are out swimming with sharks and shooting tasty underwater footage the complainers are sitting in front of their computers admiring it and wishing they had a camera and talent.

I don't want Red, Scarlet or Epic to replace my Canon nor do I want to take stills with it. I want Scarlet and Epic to shoot the best looking high res footage as possible at a realistic price point. This is what Red meant to me. Red was the Maverick on the block who broke out from the constraints these larger companies face by having to protect their high end models and corporate mindset.
 
To be honest, as a 5DII owner... I feel Canon have responded well to the requests of their video buyers. We got manual control fairly quickly and now look set to get 24/25fps too. Sure, there is some clever delaying of the firmware to help other parts of their company.... but at least we are getting what we want.

RED too are just as skilled at announcing certain things at the right time... to appease their (mainly future) customers.

Personally, I can't wait to own a Scarlett AND whichever DSLR is released that ticks all the right boxes (it will come, for sure), I think they will compliment each other very well.

For now, I will just enjoy shooting amazing stills and some great footage on the 5dII (not every shot is covered in aliasing/moire, you know!) and eagerly await the Scarlett.

Jim, the natives are starting to eat each other. Hopefully Oct 30 will come soon and restore sanity to the forum.
 
I agree. It's one thing to say you dislike or are disappointed by some other product, but I'm tired of seeing this flamebait-y thread with it's obnoxious title at the top of the page every day.
 
I just got caught up here... I don't spend much time on "Other Cameras".

I'm not exactly sure why we even have this section. It seems to only be a landscape for trouble. This is reduser. Why, remind me, do we have "other cameras" here? Why not go to canonuser.net or nikonuser.net for discussions on these cameras?

well, one reason it should be here is that us novices can find out what these cameras are doing beyond the listed specs. this thread makes me be able to state facts when investors look at me and say "hey, what about that neato canon 5DmkII, why is RED so much better?" without threads like these i wouldn't still be (patiently) waiting for a scarlet. i would be patently hostile that i had wasted 3 grand on the 5DmkII.

I own the Canon 7d, and am going to purchase another 5DMKII. Outside of that when the Scarlet becomes available, I would like to add that to the arsenal....especially if it can take EF lenses. Even if it doesn't on paper the camera blows the canons/nikons away!

Cheap market research? The brand-bashing is a silly waste of time, of course, but I imagine it's useful to know what the market will bear in terms for functionality vs. cost, from an audience that has confidence in the arrival of the DSMC line, versus the skeptical noise on other forums.

If I'm going to dream or chew the fat about something I'd much rather it be the potential of 9K monstro than whether or not my $700 - $1700 Canon camera "sucks balls". But I get caught up in these threads sometimes because the Canon/Sony/etc hate annoys me. I own both and can see the merits of both. I just don't know why for a lot of these people REDLove has to include CanonHate.

As far as I'm concerned you could close/eliminate these threads but then you'd be slammed for censorship.

I don't want to censor anyone. It is also a bit irritating when "other" fans urinate in your living room. BTW... I own Canon, Nikon... everything actually.

We'll leave "Other Cameras" up... but I have to say that we will take a sharp axe to disrespectful posts.

Eh... I wouldn't blame Jim. Does Canon have a other cameras section on their forum? 'Nuff said.

OTOH - having a Other Cameras section sorta says "we're so damn good we don't even care if you talk about competitors." Also, having these discussions on your "home court" where there's plenty of owners and fanboys around to make a good case for your side makes some pretty good sense too. Otherwise people will venture off to other boards where the discussion might be a little skewed in the wrong direction.
