  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why a Red Scarlet-w?

If you shoot HD, it's not .5K more, its 1K more.

Raven is 4KHD.
Scalrlet-W is 5KHD.

Huge difference IMHO.
I totally agree with you.
Raven 4KHD is 8,29 mio. pixels.
Scarlet-W 5KHD is 12,9 mio. pixels.
So maybe some people think that the 1K doesn't matter, but 55% more pixels is a big advantage i would say.

Is the any real reason to go Scarlet W over a Raven

Seems like the differences are , in most cases , negligble.

These seem to be the big ones, but, If you don't mind EF lens options, it seems manageable.
-Mount Options
-olpf options
- 0.5k more res / slightly larger sensor

For those of you that own/owned both , what are yout thoughts?

Easy. One MAJOR different. Field of view. Even at 4.5K the SW has more flexibility with vertical plane res than the Raven. I've tested it side by side myself. 4.5K SW is not the same as 4.5K Raven.

And then it becomes no competition when comparing 5K SW to "4.5K" (which is really 4K 16:9) Raven. The SW footage just has finer grain also and we can easily pick it out when mixed with Raven C-cam footage.

How would you think the Scarlet-W would compare to the Ursa Mini Pro? In terms of color and motion and dynamic range and highlight handling? Have there been any tests?

Yes, how are your German language skills these days?

Debayer = about the same
Lowlight BM=good SW=verygood
Rolling shutter BM=almost none SW=some

For more info go to slascam.de or ask Frank Glencairn on reduser.com he has a lot of experience with the ursa mini pro.

also is there any comparison between the scarlet-w and the red epic dragon's sensor? Is the scarlet-w superior in some ways to the red epic dragon?

It's presumably a bit cleaner at 5K, as it has the newer DSMC2 boards.

But it can't do 6K.

And it can only do 48fps at 5K, not 96fps.
