  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Whose used the Alphatron EVF 035W-3G EVF (made by TVlogic)?

Would it make sense at its price point to perhaps look into using the original Red 1 EVF? For our epic, we bought a Bomb and love it for all the obvious reasons but I don't find its image much better than the R1 EVF. We couldn't get our R1 EVF to work on the EPIC but I know others who've had good luck in doing so.

I did once do a job using the the Small HD DP 4. It was a DSLR show and we had both Zacuto EVF and DP4's to choose from. After a week we packed up the Zacuto EVF's as there image sharpness couldn't compare. With the DP4 we were able to check focus (though not as well as a DP6) but acceptable. If only it had an SDI, it would be a hit. BTW, the loop build was superb.

Re: Alphatron. Looks interesting but that edge distortion is a bit much for me and from the reports it sounds like it isn't much for focus.

For real critical work, it still sounds like all roads still lead to the Bomb.

Actually the edge distortion is not too bad for operating off the alphatron and once you set up your sharpness and focus assist(to the max for me) you can pull focus and the magnification would help when critical focus is needed, but you have toggle the short cut a couple of time at the moment! Something I hope they will fix in firmware upgrade.
I sugest trying it out... its better than the others in its price range and if you already have the R1 EVF and only shoot red, then keep it. Its ideal if you use different cameras or gona combine, lets say your Red monitor for your AC and your one HDSDI red output can be used for the Alphatron & loop though to video village.

Following up on the Alphatron, is this product a good or great or must have addition to EPIC/Scarlet w LCD package?

Any Alphatron users out there? At thoughts... We use oled red bombs for our epics but would like to look at a cheaper evf for our scarlet?

I use the Cineroid EVF4RVW sometimes with my R1MX (also have the original Red EVF, but it's heavy, and the image is nowhere near as bright or sharp as the Cineroid) when I go ultralight handheld. Highly recommend the Cineroid, only complaint is the loupe portion, a bit chinzy in construction and the diopter has very little range. Also going out of SDI (or HDMI for that matter) you don't get any of the exposure guides etc. I use the built in waveform which seems to correlate well with the Red histogram. Otherwise, solid product.
