  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Seika Asia becomes first authorized RED reseller

Thank you for many questions and requests.
Seika and RED are just started to sales contract for REDONE products line.
Next step is a EPIC and we will be announced Japanese price soon.
(Please wait to Asian International price)
Technical support, we are still discussing for CSC (Certificate Support Center) program. After the CSC contact, we can announce more detail information.
Thanks for all the great things you are doing for RED!

A repair and service facility in Asia? Fabulous idea! I suggest either Singapore or Hong Kong. Both are practically tax free & hassle free customs. After all, Singapore is where Red One is assembled (per bottom plate label).

I can't agree more with Lokesh, balaji, Harcharan Singh and others. I was also thinking Singapore as a probable sale/resale location. Please remember India, being a price sensitive market and compulsive film buff, once scarlett is out you will be flooded with orders from India. If it happens in Mumbai, chennai or Hyderabad (major filmmaking centres) in India, that will be great.

Customs and tax does suck here in Japan unfortunately. Something to think about when sending your Red for service....

I think in an idea world each country would get its own authorised re-seller to circumvent the (often) excruciating import taxes...

Congratulations to Seika Asia, and hopefull we'll see many more fine establishments proudly displaying Red products

(UK...hint hint..)

Absolutely, having the local point of contact for supply is essential. While RED do have a base in the UK, it'd be nice to see an authorised reseller to offer that second line of defence.

With the economies and financial macro-chasms we have, it's helpful to also have folk in a country that know what financing solutions are available, what grants are there etc - even to help network RED users, and give RED that local communication resellers bring.

Having bought a 56megapixel digital still back 18 months ago, if it wasn't for my reseller, I would have been left with the temporary 33.3mp back the manufacturer supplied me with. Long story short, but the manufacturer's owner sold them to the competition, and all outstanding orders evaporated from the books.

Hell, we'd love to be a RED auth reseller in the UK. We're based in Northants, so we're 1hr 30m from, well, everything ;)... Pinewood, London, Manchester... And even close to the "remote" places productions occur.

More will come... Seika has been a close partner with RED since day one so it was an obvious first step. We are lucky to have also aligned with many other great resellers over the last couple years and are excited to work with them when we are ready.

Hi Jarred,
I like to deal the RED in India. Is there any chance for it?

Hope to have specialised reseller to India / China since Japan is too far and hope to have someone in central part of Asia especially where the market is big and no of users are more like India (were the largest producer of motion picture than Hollywood).

I'm hoping that the UK gets a reseller/resellers before Scarlet is released too

Couldn't have hoped for a more positive reply! Looking forward to playing with the Scarlet fixed and the S35 at some point :)

Seika Corporation and RED Digital Cinema have entered into an Authorized Seller Agreement, which makes Seika Corporation the first authorized reseller for the company.

This collaboration will allow RED Digital Cinema to both grow sales and provide enhanced local support for customers in the Asia region.

So, how much harder will it be for us guys who didn't buy a red one, who want an epic, to get one now?

I can see a lot of requests for resellers in India. I would once again like to point this out. India is the largest maker of feature films in the world, by far, at over 1000 films per year (and rising).

Actually, Nigeria is the largest maker of feature films, they beat India by some 10%.

Nigeria is at #2, though most of them are video movies.
...
It is quite possible that Nollywood has overtaken Bollywood, but overtaking all of India's film industries combined? No chance.

You're right, I was comparing all of Nigeria to just Bollywood. However, the 900 per year figure was from 2006. I do not remember where I heard the 1200 figure from this year, though.

In any case, the Nigerian productions are much simpler - but Africa is definitely a place to keep an eye on, and likely to be an important RED territory.
