If so, why?

I've heard various things, like that One MX is more "organic".

Just wondering what others thought.

I prefer the R1....Why? I don't own an Epic-X............yet;) Soon........Can't wait.

Not me! Epic is better image.

Epic is definitely a better image, especially with the new color science and tools with RCXPro, though it could probably be said these things improve both images, but equally? I'm not so sure.

I've noticed definitely more noise on the R1MX even in daylight from the same scene compared to Epic from the same scene...RC42 4.5K on MX vs. 7:1 Epic in 5K -so much more information and gradation of colours in the image -less compression means less noise.

R1 MX is still a much better camera than most out there, but Epic is absolutely where it's at, and where things are going.

I was being sarcastic since I own just an R1;) Epic is epic.

EPIC and REDONE MX had a look?... This baffles me...

I mixed the two together a few months ago in a job... Couldn't see any difference at all... But then again, I'm a true RAW user... not a backed in colour type of guy. I can get what ever "look" i want....

IIRC David Fincher is quoted as preferring the R1MX over the EPIC. This was in the context of TGWTDT. I don't use either of them so I wouldn't have th faintest idea. DSLRs, however, definitely have innate characteristics, even if subtle.

meh. people say all kinds of silly things. SCARLET doesn't look as good as EPIC. RED ONE looks better than EPIC. just looking for stuff to say.

my SCARLET does some things a little differently than my EPIC, but the overall look is the same. the RED ONE with the new color science and the EPIC are pretty damn close. EPIC image seems even more flexible and less prone to noise. but I dunno about "more organic" - they're all capable of making similar and beautiful images, and all play well together.

Fincher was talking about how he liked the slightly noisier image of the Red One MX over the clean Epic look (more filmic in his words). He talks about the Epic being really clean looking in the BTS.

Really Marc? You couldn't see a difference between a 5K field of view and a 4K one? That's a bit baffling.

I ask for consensus because I've noticed differences, but I wanted to hear what others had to say.

In aggressive grades with HSL qualif. the Epic seems to hold up a lot better.

They're quite sort of similar with the same post settings at the R1 MXs fate part.

Move a couple of stops up and down, and the difference is significant.

IMHO Epic runs circles around R1MX, but the R1 MX with the redgamma settings in camera hides a bit of that on-set, because the heavy S.

I've been thinking this too. Red One looks better for some reason.

They look the same, lets say i would show you movie with epic and redone footage mixed you would have to guess which is which, so you dont even need an epic, but of course people always wana have the so called best camera at the moment, but it is still the same as it was a 100 years ago, making a good movie has nothing to do with the camera...
