Trevor. We managed to get a park spot and shot from the groyne as planned, I sent Peter ahead to get in among the throng handheld but I got stranded short of the stage area so had to let the sound run continuous for ambience only. There is apparently a recording being made from the PA audio. I haven't seen any of his crowd or performer's coverage. The shots from Cott groyne back onto the beach with the long lens looked nice.
A bit hard to see on the little monitor but I think the IRND1.8 was a good move. The Cott tearooms have a pleasing backlight off the beach sand. Peter seemed to have no problem with the exposures in what was a fairly hostile lighting circumstance and was able to keep the exposure within the "tramlines" as you folks call it. The sky held its blue whilst the darks in the seaweed had texture.
We were not able to get interviews with the speakers afterwards. They had apparently cleared out shortly after they concluded. It was always going to be a bonus. Interviews can be always done later.
Thank you Sam for the SSDs and the audio lead. Unfortunately I got stranded about 30m metres back with the sound gear. I could not leave the gear to go searching so had to roll it wild and free. Digital audio recorders are mavellous things. Just think what an unrealistic move that would have been with a Nagra and 20 minute tapes. There was also too much crowd noise for my deaf ears to hear the phone going off, so my apologies for that as well.
Thank you Peter for your Epic and your efforts.
