I think the tattoos are very limited in number, could even be less than 10 total. I am also guessing that Red is in almost constant communication with the Tattoo users. They have already taken our $5K and they really don't want to delay any more than they have too. If the Tattoos need only software/firmware tweaks then we should see roll out by Sept. If there are larger issues and heaven forbid hardware changes then who knows when we'll see Epics, but in wont be this year in that scenerio. Again this is just me guessing, but hey, it's a guessing thread here.

2000 units a month !! That's a lot, in a bit more than 3 months nearly all Red units should be covered with new unit. It would be nice for lot of us... but I guess most users are, like me, still gathering the 15 000$ left... I neeeed to wait 'til September/October to be ready.

Tattoos arent even out in the wild yet (Jarred himself said the firmware isn't done). So if Tattoos get out sometime in July, then i'd expect a 2-3 month Tattoo if everything goes well. So I think Oct 1 for stage 2 first batch is sort of a best case scenario, unless Jim decides to do sort of a stage 1.5 and release "Stage 2" to the first 50 or 100 serial #s as sort of a secondary 'Tattoo' so to speak.

As of 5/31/10, Jarred said this...

Correct... The Tattoo Program has already begun, Snake Oil, Lucky, Jackpot, Crackpot and Ghost are all Tattoo cameras that have been built in the last couple weeks. Several more are being assembled, and once Firmware V1.0 is ready, those new Tattoos will be delivered to the selected few that are in the Tattoo program.

I am not sure how it can be more explicit but if you want to argue about what the Tattoo program is, you'd want to take it up with Jarred. Apparently he thinks TATTOO HAS BEGUN (and nearly two weeks ago).

It's now 6/11 and I am willing to believe, given the likely priority within RED, that the firmware issues have probably been solved - at least enough to get more Tattoo Epics out the door. I just can't imagine these guys are sitting around with a "wait 'til tomorrow" attitude about getting this stuff done. As far as how the Tattoo program runs... I am guessing they are not making a list of "issues" to be dealt with when the program is over. I am thinking they are dealing with anything that comes up as quickly as possible and that the program is very dynamic. That's why they limited it to just a few people - so they could react to each issue quickly and keep things moving forward. To be sure, I don't know any of this but it sure make sense to me.

Jay. . . set up that betting site on Paypal. This realist wants to take these optimist's money. September? October?

August seems very likely, at this stage.

I think a lot of people don't realize Tattoo is underway in force. Tattoo is an closed NDA program, so you won't hear much about it in public, perhaps that's why.

I am drawn between August, October and January.
I sorta hope for August, but start to think about setting up production lines, then think October (which was my vote), then remember R1, SI, Dalsa and sort of any high end spec'ed cam around and think January may not be unlikely...

November seems about right... at least for my budgeting

I don't know when, but with the MX sensor available for the R-1, I don't think it's that much of an issue for most. And because of that, there doesn't seem to be the constant pressure bearing down on RED to release Epic before it is deemed ready. So, I think August to January is pretty good window. I wouldn't bet on any one month in Jay's betting pool because it could be August 31st or January 1st and you miss winning the pool by one day. Plus, the RED employees may get someone to bet for them and fix the game. Not saying they are in any way dishonest, but getting a bonus for getting the camera out on a date that benefited them might be considered neutrally ethical. :-)

I'm hoping for them to start shipping the first week of september, that seems like a realistic goal, assuming no major drama. For me, Epic-X can't come soon enough. Wish I could have it yesterday.

:iagree:

Especially for me since I already sold my R1 and all it's accessories. Going all-in with the new DSMC system...

I thought you had to keep your R1 to qualify for Epic Stage 2.

As Martin and Curran said, R1's sold or Epic-X sold, can not have a change of ownership registration at Red till the Epic-X has been delivered to the current registered owner.

My self as Curran did, I could not currently afford to get my Epic-X cameras, unless I sold my R1's which are in a Lease to Purchase agreement, have been for a while now, and the R1 and Epic-X I have been assisting the sales of, also go sold under the same contract of Lease to Own, which means that you do own the camera out right from the moment that you paid the agreed fee and sign the contract, but you can not be the owner of Record with Red till the Epic-X camera is delivered.

Martin is correct, as usual. I didn't transfer ownership.

Im actually going all-in on two Epic-X pachages. Wouldn't have been able to afford both without selling my R1.

Sounds a little dodgy to me, what would happen if you went bankrupt & are still the legal owner of the camrea? or are you saying there is a diffrence with legal & registered owner? A bit like a car when it's registered to a 'keeper'
