  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

which wireless follow focus to buy?

By the way everyone I ended up paying $14999 USD from Charles Rowe at ABEL CINE.
That was for the 2 motor kit. In the future I can buy another motor if I decide to use ZOOM. (Defeats the purpose of a steadicam really if you zoom!!!)

At that price why would you bother with any other system?

Hi partners.
Just one question...where does I get to buy the Chrosziel Digifox. At what shop.
Thank a lot
Fede

16x9 Inc. sells Chrosziel Digifox. In the initial post, each follow focus unit has a link for where you can buy it.

The RED Run/Stop cable does indeed come with our ARRI wireless RED bundle.

Adam, glad we could help you out.

Adam and Mitch, which ARRI accessories for the wireless system are most often overlooked when buying a system. The ARRI wireless catalog seems to have a huge selection of items. I don't know if these are upgrade to a minimum system or accessories or what. After my in depth conversations with Abel C staff myself plus ARRI in Burbank, it seems to me that something is being left on the table on this $15,000 configuration. What is it? What would it cost to bring it up from a minimum system to an all inclusive, but only two axis, system?

Tim, give me a call sometime and we can run through the system. We have a set bundle which is appropriate for the RED. One could always add bits and pieces to work with other camera systems, but that's not needed for a RED package.

I would say the RCU functions are what's being left on the table - i.e. the shutter angle/fps ramping control that film cameras can offer but that is currently not possible with RED. That would take a chunk out of the package. Plus the many, many interface cables you would need for a "complete" package.

I just got my RT Motion FF Kit. First impression is great, the build quality of this thing is amazing, set up a breeze. I will be testing the unit and post back here, but know this much: I think you'll have to look hard to find a product as good as this one at this price point. Really happy so far. Some really cool features, and some great ones still to come. All user updatable...

I have a couple of Bartechs and they are great, very basic but very reliable.
Preston is king of the hill for sure. But I'm keen on getting a new Arri setup. Fairly affordable and slick.
Cheers,
Harry

Had a glance at the link. Have not looked at these things since they were first being discussed. This guy sure has come a long way with these units. Please let us know what you think of them. Very interesting.

I've also decided on the RT Motion wireless FF kit. So far, everything about them has been great. Communication, price, customer service, quality of product. I'll be putting it through various tests and real world shoots and report back and maybe post some videos to show it in action.

Kudos to the RT Motion guys.

new product?

new product?

I think they got a bit ahead of themselves here.
It's a legit company that has some really cool accs. They reply to emails pretty reliably.

Hello Mitch, nice compilation you have here.
last time I asked, a Scorpio kit (with three motors) was 18,000€.
Digifox goes around 4,500€.

I have work with both, Scorpio is robust and really worth its price. Digifox, will let you hanging in the long run, also it sicks dry battery from camera, and if recording to disc gives you sata transfer errors.

I see you have decided for the RT Motion, do you find it to be better than the digifox?

I´m also searching for a Wireless Follow Focus myself, I wanted to go View Factor from the begining, but it seems it is a long wait. My second option is Bartech, but Im intrigued with the RT Motion, specially for its price range.

Hi Giancarlo

I wouldn't buy a Bartech, in fact, I haven't bought a Bartech but an RT Motion. All I can say is that this is a great piece of equipment, extremely well built, easy to use and reliable. For this price, there's simply nothing better. Personally, I would not wait for Viewfactor. Also, the focus knob on the RT Motion is simply amazing and way smoother than Bartech or Viewfactor. I'm writing a review for my website right now, should be up in a couple of days.

WARNING!

THE JAG35 CINEMA FOLLOW FOCUS KIT WITH THE F3 MOTOR HAS MAJOR ISSUES WE WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS.

1. THE MOTOR JUMPS AROUND LIKE CRAZY WHEN EVER IT WANTS TO....NOT IDEAL FOR FOLLOW FOCUS!

2. THE NOISE OF THE MOTOR EVEN WHEN AT REST (BETWEEN UNEXPECTED JUMPS AND TWITCHES) IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOUND SHOOTING.

3. THE MOUNT ATTACHED TO THE MOTOR DOESNT CLAMP ONTO OUR RODS SECURELY AT ALL AND THERE ARE NO TECH ILLUSTRATIONS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PROPERLY SUPPORT THE MOTOR .

WE'VE INVESTED IN JAG35'S BEST PACKAGE AND IT IS SO UNUSABLE THAT WE ARE FRANKLY SKOCKED THAT THEY'VE RELEASED THIS PRODUCT AT ALL.

WE REALLY ARE VERY UNHAPPY.

DONT MAKE THE SAME HORRIBLE MISTAKE.
