I'm about to put my deposit down but confused on which package to go with...Also is it true that we won't be expecting shipment until March on all package orders? =(

I plan to use my Raven on Gimbal, Tripod and Handheld. I/O or Jetpack? Seems JetPack doesn't come with a battery power option? (no v-mount) but i've read its a better package for Gimbal/Aerial applications.

Sorry I know this has been asked before but I'm impatient and want to order ASAP ;)

Thanks guys!

battery belt clip is a v mount on a belt buckle in that package

I would hands down go with the V-mount. Sounds like your kinda new in the red game. so unless you have a lot of gold mount batteries you should be good to go. When i mount my red to a Ronin, i normally run a Lemo to P-tap power cable which runs out of the red to a v-mount plate i have rigged to the handle bars of the Ronin (makes it easier to balance) and for hand-held/tripods you will deff want the v-mount on the rear of the camera so you can shoot for a long time, Also the V-mount Base expander is probably the most expensive accessory they offer, and prob getting the best bang for your buck there. and dont forget if you dont get the base I/O V-mount you have no SDI port..

I ordered the base I/O and i can't wait!

Owned a used Scarlet-MX for about a year now so yeah, pretty new. I own 3 RedVolts (which I imagine are obsolete on Raven/Weapon) and (2) Switronix Pro-X V-Mount XP-L90S Bricks. I've been using the REDVolts in the side handle soley when using my Ronin as I never invested in a slim v-mount or belt clip.

So the I/O package over the Jetpack still?

word. your set on a path for v mounts so your good there. They mentioned a new type of sidehandle thing you can fit redvolts into however, and yes when i got my Ronin i was using the side handle to power the camera. having the camera off center and having to switch batteries every 25 min made it annoying tho. once i got the v-mount on the handle bars it was like a whole new world. i think for the raven I'm gonna go with a Ronin-M, not sure yet how its gonna handle the lens and bartech. and use the new Switronix Slim batteries. still gonna use an easy rig but i think its gonna be great to shed some lbs

and yah I/O man. as you do more you will wish you had that SDI, there is also USB, and a P-Tap on that module, i have to say it looks beautiful. and to be honest it looks like it should cost about $2000 on its own, maybe more we will find out

I've been shooting with my Weapon, but if this is any help to you guys, the Base Expander hasn't left my camera yet.

Personally I would get that and/or the V-Lock Base Expander.

Also to note, I've seen the prototype DSMC2 UNIVERSAL HANDLE somewhat recently. Between that and the DSMC² TOP HANDLE, one of those will fit right for you.

I wouldn't dare to ask you about that new Universal Handle... lol
I have great expecations though !

I guess my final question is, if I get the Base I/O kit, won't I run into the same issue with the V-Mount brick not clearing the back of the Ronin arms since it's mounted to the rear?

if you are worried about this and want to set up your Ronin like this you can get attachments like this http://cinemilled.com/shop/dji-ronin-armextenders/

Personally i prefer the V-mount to rest on the handlebars, the base I/O is more important than just a place to put your brick battery. with out SDI, and more power inputs (P-Tap, USB) it makes it hard to equip your camera with monitors OR Wireless units like Teradeck..

Perhaps one of you guys can answer my question in this thread (I think this is still on-topic). I plan on powering the Raven off of my Letus Helix Jr gimbal battery using the 2-pin to 6-pin lemo power cable sold by Letus (http://letusdirect.com/cart/helix-red-power-cable.html)

I'd like to keep weight down to a minimum, and also keep the whole rig from getting too front heavy, thus if there's a weight or thickness difference between the Base I/O and the Jetpack, that should be taken into account. Based on that information, which package would you guys recommend?

It's hard to tell from the pictures, But im really thinking the base I/O will not weigh much more than the jet pack to start (remember the raven only weighs 3.5 lbs anyhow).. like you said, running a power cord from the gimbal is a good way to go, I will still do the same, and then be able to still attach accessories that need SDI. If you work alone on music videos and sports stuff the jet pack may be all you need. On a film set you will need SDI eventually.

Base I/O V-mount kit for me no question

Hey Phil, is the DSMC2 Universal Handle more akin to the new DSMC2 Outrigger or is it basically a dumb top handle?

It looks a lot like this:

ha ha my hands are probably twice the size of normal people so that wouldn't be good but here is a size reference I just took just for you :)

yup... lots of them and all helicoils incase you fuck em up :)

Shorter length, no Start/Stop button, a fair amount of tapped and protected 1/4-20s for mounting, which I like.

BTW,

I was able to get a V Mount setup, that I had left over, from another comoany & PAG battery on the back of Stealth and balance, with extension arms, on Ronin. Essentially the same as with my Carbon Fiber Dragon, so far.

Thank you very much
