I'm using the Red Control app interface with a Komodo Link tethered phone. For me this solves the SDI protocol issue and cuts probably 1-2 lbs from the rig. Without an external monitor I don't really need V-Mounts. Additionally the Komodo touchscreen is fiddly, a phone/tablet grants the best of both worlds, physical button interface monitored via the built in LCD and touchscreen through the phone. Plus I can't seem to adjust the Shinobi without pulling up all the overlays, the app provides a more integrated experience.
My problem is that the iPhone 12 Pro is a little small and I don't like the idea of my daily driver hanging off the camera, never mind that the phone clamp is forever trying to dial 911. A dedicated device would be preferred. Has anyone experimented with any of the cheap Android phones or tablets in the 6-8" range? Any recs?
Good Luck
