  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Which look? IT's commercial about cancer

I cheated and used Speedgrade :( Didn't know you wanted a pure R3D solution. I added a secondary on his teeth and a bit of a mask to soften the neck and his right shoulder.

Thanks Gavin.

A slight sat and wb differnce only between your and mine, as far as I can see... :)

Liked yours too!

And there are lots of niceones here, depending on interpretation.

best one by far. Only one that has the sharpness but not overdone, and the touch of grain is nice. A commercial about cancer needs to have ha little warmth/ligthness in the colors to contrast against the heavy and dark subject matter or it will just get too gloomy and sad, unless that is what you are going for.

The sharpness is really important to add to RED footage, because there is no form of sharpness added in camera. If you don't add any sharpness the image will look muddy and slightly out of focus (unless you have super sharp lenses). With the sharpness you can really appreciate the detail and the character of his face and particulary the eyes, which is really important to crate a connection to the viewer. The sharpness is very well implementet in this grade, as it looks very natural partly because of the added grain which hides the fact that it's sharpened and adds some texture to the footage.

Thanks guys.

I love that so many people come up with so many different looks. Pretty fun playing with cc and doing it entirely in RedcineX. Too bad we don't have secondaries...

Just for fun here's a neutral version:

How much sharpening did you add?

quite a bit (more than I'd ever really do on an in focus shot)...the shot is really soft. The 35mm film grain helps with sharpening as well and hides the unsharp mask quite a bit. Same sharpening and 35mm grain as my previous 1st lights in this thread.
