  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

which is better; a contax or ZF prime???

oh, so you use an ef-oct-19 adapter? and those cover 4k? any good recommends from over seas sellers, oh did you pick them up locally?
i guess i was thinking in case i had a pl mount camera these lenses might be a nice "look" alternative to the modern pl lenses i use.
but im thinking you use them on a ef mount epic, with an adapter, no?
also, any i should stay away from?

got it, thank you mike, very very good advice. there is a reputable person that makes oct19 to eos, but not for oct18, same guy told me the same thing, oct18 lenses are older and probably have a problem and i shouldnt buy them unless fully tested because they probably cant be fixed.
on that note, any experience with the foton zoom, ha! i hear mixed results.
id love to see your work with them, let me know if you have links or a webpage!
thanks again!

nice thing about that tair is that the focus throw is about 170 degrees, ive seen some housed as cine lenses too.

Yeah I've seen those too: wouldn't surprise me if they've been adapted by Soviet productions for use on set. They certainly have the build quality.

Yes, I have a full set of 10 Lomos all made in 1990 and 1991 which are the newest Lomos. They look great! I much prefer them to many more modern lenses because they have character. They are more than sharp enough and yet still look organic. A really great match for digital. Compared for example to cheap glass such as the Rockinons and even CP.2, I much prefer the Lomos. Much, much cheaper than the CP.2s, yet much more character and much better than the Rockinons which have a lot of plastic in them and look quite sterile, like many Zeiss.

I agree, older glass in general has a lot of character, and matches well with digital (and RED in particular, with it's cleaner rendering).

and sorry everyone, i know this thread started out as a zeiss comparison, which Nick more than answered for me, but now i have mikes attention, id love to know about his lomo experience, since there is such a wide variety and mostly you have to wait a month before you receive one lens from russia.
thanks guys!

No prob, I like where this is going too...

Mine are OKC. They are all OCT-19 mount. I don't feel the need to convert them to PL. Not to mention OCT-19 is actually a stronger mount.

OCT-19 was a Soviet cinema mount, so should be strong.

oh, so you use an ef-oct-19 adapter? and those cover 4k?

Most LOMOs are S35, so should cover 4K.

I don't think there's an ef to OCT-19 adapter. I have an OCT-19 mount on my camera.

Also consider the ALL-STAR system: it has an OCT-19 adapter, so you can easily switch btw PL glass, OCT-19, and stills glass (just not EOS).

Take a look:

what a bout a lomo foton zoom? anyone have any experience with that lens? my only worry is the maintenace on one if anything happens, and we ll know zooms need proper care.
