Anyone have an idea where a good place to do a one time Mag transfer to Trash can while on the road? Will be on a shoot doesn't make sense to get a hotel room for a 45min transfer.

Matt.. Not know where you are I am curious why you are on location with a trash can as opposed to a laptop. You could get a power inverter to run the trash can off the car or van. You could rent a few extra mags so you have enough media to last until you do have access to a proper place to off load and backup your footage. Then there are coffee shops and restaurants that if you spoke with the staff may let you set up your computer.

I second all these. On jobs where you're working out of a van or on location, sometimes it's easy to set up in a coffee shop if you buy a bunch of stuff for the crew and ask permission. Rarely has this approach not worked. Also, some petty cash helps grease the wheels sometimes.

HONDA EU2000i and a UPS to clean up the power supply is the norm I believe, or inverter off your car and UPS but that's less flexible if you need to be nearer set than vehicle can allow

Thanks all good advice. I was wondering if a pay office space or station would work. UPS is a good idea with some sort of battery backup (EU2). Using a trash can because thats what I had. Will be getting a 'top or building a custom case for the TC. Thanks Ted, Brendan and Craig.

I would set it up in the car with an inverter I imagine a 1kW inverter would do. Think the trashcan max consumption is 300W or such. Then screen and hardrives etc adds some. I would sugest to keep the engine on while transfer so you don't get stuck with a bad battery. But seams easier to borrow any kind of laptop.

This also works. That kind of inverter will need to run straight from the battery (with the car on as not to drain) and you want to make sure you have a PURE SINE inverter. Easy to google and get for under $200. Don't skimp out on the thing that supplies power to your machine handling footage.

If using a car inverter it's prudent to also have a spare car battery. Running out of fuel on either a car or generator is a hassle but you can often get help relatively quickly to get more fuel. Having something go wrong and draining your battery leaves you unable to travel or transfer for a much longer time.
