  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where do we stand: Epic X Canon EF mount?

Good point on the 24 f/1.4. That's one lens that would be sorely missed switching to all Nikon, especially on bigger sensors like X35 (or whatever Epic X's sensor size is being called) and FF35. An electronic EF mount would really be ideal, especially if it's available right out of the gates on sub-#500 Epic Xs.

The one drawback of the new 24 f/1.4 Mark II like you have, Drew, is that it vignettes more than the Mark I, but that won't be an issue on the Epic X's sensor. You really get to use a very sweet part of that lens.

That's good news. I was hoping for a Nikon/Canon mount for the Epic-X right out of the gate. I know it hasn't been said yet but it seems like there's a strong chance of it happening. I wouldn't mind getting a Canon mount and just using my Nikon to EOS adaptor for all my glass. I just don't want my 24mm 1.4L lens to be limited to my 5D2.

Andrew,

what about Canon 24mm f/1.4 FD L (manual focus) on R1?

R1 with Canon 24mm f/1.4 FD L, follow focus ARRI MFF-1, Cinevate focus gears, Long Valey Equipment 15mm rods, Sound Devices MixPre,...

See I heard that they have about the same vignetting but that the Mark II is sharper at wider apertures and has less CA than the Mark I. But again this is just what I have heard. If I had both lenses a test could be done. But I don't feel like renting a lens to see if this is all true. I'm very happy with the 24mm 1.4L Mark II that I got. I got some nice TL when I was in Northern Arizona last week. I'm sure it will make its way on here soon enough.

Sanjin, how do you control the aperture on that lens. Is it a manual aperture lens. Kind of hard to tell from the picture.

Andrew,

it's Canon FD lens and it has a manual aperture control.

That is a sweet looking lens Sanjin. I know electronic apertures have a purpose and everything but I'm a big fan of the manual aperture rings. Kind of the reason why I like using my Zeiss ZF lenses on my RED and 5D2. That and they look awesome.

I'm really hoping for a Nikon & Canon mount right when Epic is released. Hopefully the end of this month will address all those concerns.
