  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where do Europeans buy their RED's?

Another quick question:

I registered on red.com. When I place an order there on Nov. 3, will I have to pay a deposit in $? I hope not, because that makes things unnecassery complicated.

One wish for European customers:

When we order on the 3rd, our orders will be processed through Red Europe. I´m afraid, that those orders will not be processed until the next morning in Europe, putting us on the end of the line.

I already examined the shop, meditated, trained my Jedi skills, I´m ready to order within fractions of a second! But that would all be useless and unfair for us Europeans if our orders are not processed the same way north american orders are.

So please! We might look strange to you and speak weird languages but we´re human beings like you and we deserve to be treated equally!

I suspect (hope) that orders will be 'in line' when they are acknowledged on the web site, irrespective of whether the order is fulfilled by RED.com or RED Europe. As for deposits, when I've previously used the RED.com store and had the order passed to RED Europe I haven't been asked for an instant online deposit, although that was for low value stuff and the full invoice was emailed very quickly from R E.

Non of that is official though.

You can't really compare Finland and Germany, it's not the same size of country in terms of population and economic activity (5 millions of people, half of the population in and around Paris). I have a friend who lives in Scotland. He pays all his taxes, just like everyone else. And in Scotland, it's still pounds, not euros ;-) Currency conversions aren't free, unfortunately ;-)

Here in Finland imported goods outside EU will get 23% VAT+ few % customstariff.Usually what the price is in US just take replace the $ with euros and thats pretty close to the truth.

Rentals?

Rentals?

I'm in the US and have a couple of Epics and am wondering what happens if someone wants to rent one in Europe or elsewhere. Do you list it as a rental on the customs forms or something like that? I see international requests for rental frequently so I can't imagine people are paying massive import costs besides the rental cost. Thanks.

You would need to get an ATA carnet for your equipment, to simplify temporary export/import procedures.

Walter, I rent quite frequently Reds from outside Europe, as they're usually cheaper, and I agree with Steven-Marc : an ATA carnet is a must-have. Furthermore I would suggest you to come with your gear (for feature film work, ie long-period rental, at least 1 week). The problem of repair/support on emergency is something chaotic, so a back up Red body is a must have too ;-)

In Great Britain, which is actually in Europe contrary to recent reports and we are pleased about being in Europe, our first Red was purchased from the USA, in future we think Red Europe (Pinewood) will be prefered if exchange rates are good.

Okay, I'll post here so to make things very clear to every one... And not just to those that email me about this.

When I returned to Italy 6 months ago, I enter the country under an UNATANTUM regulations, which allows Italian Citizens, which are or not also US Citizen,
but have leaved abroad for more then two years, have the right to bring back home their possessions, with NO TAXES or DUTIES.

However I have chosen not to include the EPIC cameras, Master Primes and Atom 3D rig, as I always had intended to return them to the US for work, and YES,
I should have done a Carnet as I always do, but this time I was already in Italy with the gear, and decided later not to declared in my UNATANTUM deal,
as I would had to re-import the gear back in the US later.

Surely writing this in the thread where I flagged the issue might make some sense.
