  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

where are the 30" 4k OLED monitors?

Last link is from January 2012. After that there have been a few changes in direction. Sony is one of stakeholders in Japan Display which is working on OLED technology as well. OLED is still fairly young technology for wide spread usage compared to LCD and consumer market needs large quantities. Public announcements come and go and with this rapidly changing realm few things are set in stone. Panasonic announced EOL of plasmas a few times yet continued to produce them.

With this in mind, instead of "abandoned" for consumer market, I would suggest "postponed". They do not have to develop and/or produce the panels themselves, they can leave r&d to others and focus on current priorities and eventually outsource them when they meet their goals and still have own final products for this segment.

First link is from April 2013. The article covers announced professional models expected in 2014.
CES is consumer electronics event and 2014 is nine days old.

:)

darn, I've been very unhappy with the sharp.. but i can't go back after going to 4k :) A proper backlite LED/LCD would be nice too.. i'm just not touching a monitor with a IGZO screen.

Which model Sharp are you using- the 32"? I'd rather have the consumer electronics industry go straight to 8K UHD as Samsung and Sharp are demoing this year for televisions and use 4K for laptops and tablets and computer monitors and phones and VR. However,
4K and higher res screens seem to invite you to get close and touch or gesture and want to interact with it, like a virtual sandbox... Lenovo has 28" touch 4K UHD models and a 15" 4K UHD touch laptop as well, and not sure if Panasonic uses an IGZO panel in the 20" Toughbook... not sure about screen quality, but interesting nonetheless...

Sony and Panasonic dissolved their R&D/Manufacturing alliance this year and Panasonic is moving ahead with OLED monitors while Sony will do something else I suppose.

yeah, i'm using the 32" pnk321. 8k.. hrmm.. i do game on my 4k monitor and need 4 titans :) 8k would be a bit much. I'm really not impressed IGZO... and the build quality of the screen is totally crap too. If someone was thinking of getting this gen of 4k IGZO monitors i'd suggest looking at the dell. (the Asus is just a rebadge of the sharp) But they should wait to see what others do.

Sony is working on a couple of professional 4K OLED displays (42" and 32"?). Hopefully they will be released sometime this year (3rd Q?). They're truly gorgeous but expect BVM pricing around $25,000.

I was at the Sony company store in Culver City last week and they had a huge 4K screen on display.

The picture was beautiful, but the whites had an electronic blue cast that was jarring to my eye.

We asked the experts there whether this was a case of the screen needing a tweak or two but they told us the demo clips and the monitor were calibrated in Japan and they were not permitted to touch anything.

Has anyone else seen the blue/whites on the Sony 4K screens?
