  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When will RC3/RG3 support in PPro arrive?

I have an idea when ;)

Cheers

Dave

i hope that means really really soon:-P It'll save me tons of time going back n forth between premiere and redcine. My only question is when RC3/RG3 finally comes to premiere will it only be available for CS6 or will it also be available for CS5.5 for those of us who havent upgraded yet?

This is the first time Adobe is last with something Red related. All the other native Red-able platforms now support RC3/RG3.

RCXPro as a virtual component of a "suite"...

RCXPro as a virtual component of a "suite"...

Would be great to have RC3/RG3 in the Adobe Suite as the round tripping to RCXPro can get laborious if you have a lot of time remapping, PIP, layering, complex transitions, etc. What I did on a recent project was to just one-light and transcode the selects up front in RCXPro then live in CS5.5 after that - but making 4K DPXs of so much material that wasn't going to make the cut ate a ton of hard drive space (not to mention the disk IO challenges of 4K DPX media). At first I tried using an EDL from Premiere Pro to drive a conform on RCXPro, but due to the number of speed changes and transitions I got brutalized by current EDL limitations.

If Phil Hodgetts says its tough I believe him, but it sure seems like XML should be able to support a "modern EDL" that handles just about anything you can throw at it. Perhaps the evolution of the "suite" environment is the real answer where grading happens "inside" the ecosystem and "round tripping" is an anachronism. Could a 3rd party like Adobe or Apple use the Red SDK to create a feature comparable version of RCXPro that used their GUI conventions and lived inside their garden? What if I said please? ;-)

Just started using Premiere and AE direct with R3Ds. Fantastic! RC3 will be icing on the cake.

Dave, can you give us a hint? A few days, weeks or months? I suspect it's already finished, but other fixes being packaged with the update are not finished, so they are delaying the RC3/RG3 release. And will it only be available in CS6 or can I have it for CS5.5 as well?

Yes. We would need news too in order to plan upcoming workflows better.
