  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What's the best Jib

I have used the ezfx and kessler a few times. Kessler has nice build quality but I wouldn't put a rig weighing more ten pounds on it. The ezfx one held an HDX900 pretty easily.

This is something I'll need to be picking up in the next couple months too. Strongly considering the Kessler Pocket Jib as we'll be shooting in some fairly tight spaces.

Doing some test shots of using a flex dolly with the pocket jib. During this dolly move, camera jib's up from behind the counter, then will move over the camera. I through on an extra 15 pound bag on the rig for you ... so u can see it extra weight ... (it already had a camera on it) ... and the jib did fine(was actually really smooth with that extra weight). There are three settings for the pocket jib, when I have a lot of weight on it, i only use the setting for minimum extension. [max extension is fine for vdslr stuff ... but for cinema rigs, min extension is were u want to be]

Hey James...
If your looking for an inexpensive, yet decent Jib for under $500 you might want to check out the indiGo-Jib from Indisystem:

Here is some video I shot with mine on the first day using it and without a monitor (just looking way up at the camera viewfinder). Super easy to use and it even stops nice and smooth. The camera I shot with was a Canon XH-A1 which is lighter than the Scarlet... I can't wait to try it out with my Scarlet:

Why thank you Patrick! Informative.

Based on peoples suggestions I'll be looking at the Kessler Pocket Jib and the EZFX EZ Jib. I'm a big fan of Kessler gear. My Cineslider has treated me well. I can see certain advantages on the EZFX front.

In about 40 days I'll have to decide. I'll likely test them both out before hand. We have a couple shots that will be pan and jib movements with a focus puller on a 12 inch whip right next to me. Hoping to operate from the front for those setups. Some are very simple vertical moves as well. Still in the pre-pro stage figuring out a lot of those setups.

I Have an in with Camera Turret. It is AMAZING. LEt me know if you are interested. Best jib we have used short of full scale telescoping. They actually used to supply Kessler.

I am also looking at getting the Pocket Jib, and was wondering which version people are using, the regular Pocket Jib, or Pocket Jib Pro - ($400 more and rated for 50 lbs) My typical Scarlet setup weight is about 15lbs. But wondering if the Pro will be less 'springy' then the regular version?
