Hi,

1k 1024
2K 2048
4k 4096
8k 8192

It's referring to horizontal pixels.

First you begin with 1, multiply that by two and you have 2, multiply by two and you have 4, multiply by two, 8 then 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 and you get to 1024, which is 1K. Multiply by two and you have 2048, 2K. Multiply by two and you have 4096, 4K.

This system is used a lot for resolutions and digital memory. I think it's because it's perfectly even numbers that can always be devided in two all the way down to 1.

It's multiplied by 2 because computers and processors are basically billions of on/off switches or bits.

If you add one more bit it is like multiplying by 2. If they add one bit to the process that handles horizontal resolution, that will multiply by 2. If the Vertical, then it is multiplied by 2.

An oversimplification, but basically true.

I see. I was trying to think of something like that but couldn't.
