  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

what tripod?

Cartoni Gamma is very stable and fluid- still expensive used, but a bargain comparatively to O'Conner or Sachtler.. of course, you never know. ! got mine used on EBAY, works great. :)

Not to sound like a complete ass, but what makes you think someone will want to rent a $500 Head/Tripod?

I know that if I were going to start an equipment rental company, it would be stocked with the latest equipment that my clientele were asking for.

Just a thought.

We do extremely mobile production with Red cameras. When I was using my Red One cameras (SN 0008, "Hollywood", "London") from 2007 to 2012, me and my crews always used them with a Miller Arrow 55 head on either Miller Sprinter II spreader-less CF legs, or Miller alloy legs. I recommend that setup highly for any Red One setup.

With my Red Epic cameras me and my crews use four different Miller head/leg combos depending on the head load and degree of mobility needed:

1) Skyline 70 head (150 mm bowl) with heavy-duty mid-spreader CF legs - for low mobility 3D and 2D head loads of up to 83 pounds

2) Arrow 55 head (100mm bowl) with either Sprinter II 2-stage mid-spreader CF or Solo 1505 spreader-less CF legs - with 20 to 55 pound 3D and 2D head loads, and moderate to high mobility

3) Compass 25 head (100 bowl) with either of the same legs as with the Arrow 55 head - with lighter head loads up to 31 pounds, Canon or Nikon lenses, and high mobility

4) Compass 15 head (75mm) with Solo spreader-less CF legs - for extremely mobile work with Canon or Nikon lenses and head loads up to 22 pounds

Obviously I recommend Miller head/leg combos highly. In my opinion Miller offers the best performance to price ratio available

Interesting facts: : in 1946 Miller filed for and received the first patent for a fluid head design for film cameras. They've been building fluid heads and tripods since 1954.

Reaz, the phrase "Not to sound like a complete ass" means that (in this case) Mr. Jones was stating that he hoped HE didn't sound like a complete ass. He wasn't saying you were an ass. And (not to sound like a complete ass), from your writing I get the impression english may not be your first language - this is sort of an American/Western slang phrase, used to point out that the speaker does understand he may be sounding like a complete ass but doesn't intend to sound like one.

I do concur with his observation that a budget tripod head may not be a popular rental item...

I have just buy a Red One MX last week ( #2222 :-) ), but after try to use it with my Manfrotto HDV tripod, I have understood that I must buy another tripod.
The red one has kill my bank account, so can't buy an expensive tripod. (And I need money to buy new lens, for now, I haven't wide angle than I can use with the Red One).
Have you nice, and relatively unexpensive tripod to advise me?

I would look for a used oconner, cartoni, vinten, sachtler, libec tripod & head.
This is some thing not to go cheep on, but you dont have to brake the bank.

I have and use Oconner.
The one most used is 30L with 1030D
