  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What to do

One image also on the 85mm f/1.4 Zeiss Otus Prime with the RED Weapon 8K VV Dragon with a look that "may or may not be similar to the general direction of LIcolor"

Natural light? Love the skin tone :) ipp2?

Can a shooter / DP be type cast? As in Phil is the guy that shoots painted people. :)

If you hire Light Iron to finish your feature, they can use their own color science, at least technically. Policy is another matter. The folks at Light Iron are passionate about quality.

This was my first time seeing a DXL in person. Such a beautifully built camera.

I think overall given the availability of VV's and the comments above about Lens options and image circles vs performance I'd probably go with one of each. 1 VV and 1 Helium 8K. I think Bjorn, Mark and Phil have stated most of the info I'd post anyway :)

As far as I know Ketch the stunningly beautiful test films that Panavision did that I saw screened at the show were shot with Red's OLPF. I know we "heard" that they were going to put a custom OLPF in and thus change a bit of Graeme's color science but I have not seen any proof.

I guess I will ask my friends at PV if I can shoot a test and maybe borrow Phil's VV at the same time if he is willing.

But I appreciate your glowing review of Helium my long lost friend! Happy Holidays

Prototype DXL's are different then the current Production DXL in rental houses globally.

But in a conclusive way, the DXL is very different from the RED Weapon, and not easily matched, intercut? Sure, matched? not really.

Absolutely love what LightIron/RED/Panavision have done, and it wasn't easy nor cheap, and for good reasons they can't really be matched, there so much in the DXL, that it is not in the Weapon VV's.

Ultimately they are also designed and built for very specific purposes and clientele.

Happy Holidays to you as well Peter!
