NFL SPORTS> .... thats what.

Watching these reviews, when they zoom in on the ball on the grass at 1080P... its soft and out of focus weak ass shit.

HOW LONG UNTIL NFL NETWORK SHOOTS 4K BROADCAST? (not shouting cap locks, sorry)

come to think of it... ALL SPORTS need to be shot in glorious 5K resolution for 4K Delivery... Olympics, Soccer, etc etc..

So who is on that? I know I am.

I'm not a sports fan, and I HATE football. So I have to respectfully disagree with you, lol. But all joking aside I'm sure that NFL films has some RED ONE's or EPICS that they shoot for Docs, Promos, and Highlight reels. I know they also have 35mm film cameras that they shoot that stuff with.

you dont have to be a fan. imagine fencing or exreme kayaking then,... zooming in on high resolution footage is inherently BETTER. DUH?!

long live red 5K 6K 128K!

When I watch (real) football I don't give a damn if it's 567p, 1080p or 5K because I'm enjoying the game too much to care about the quality. The game is so much more important than the quality.

I've thought for a while the a great use of 4K+ would be if we had a playback format that allowed for zooming. So 5K capture. View it in 1080P (or 4k) and be able to zoom in on demand. That would be great for sports. Football, golf, tennis, racing, cheerleaders.

Maybe that's 10 years away.. or maybe broadcasters build the ability for themselves. That would be a very cool way to differentiate.

Haven't you seen the many 360 videos on internet where you can move and zoom the camera? That technology is already here and in use but it might take a while for it to get used in live TV. It would be cool for re-checking goals and other special situations, but there are so many camera angles these days that it would be pointless in most cases. The directors are usually doing fine job.

This was one of the first to appear (around 2 years old): http://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2010/01/world/haiti.360/index.html

I want to see Usain Bolt break the 100, 200 and 400 meter world records in glorious 5K 96fps.

5K sports.......? What about 8K sports?
Selected games at the 2012 Olympic games in London will be filmed in 8K and broadcasted and displayed in 8K on big screens to 4 locations/screens in UK, three in Japan and one in Washington D.C. if everything goes according to plan.
:hat:

I could say the same thing about an engaging feature film, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea to improve quality!

Hockey. Hockey is one of those sports that truly benefits from higher res. Goal line judgement calls, seeing the puck being blasted around the ice. Plus, I love my hockey.

Formula One would be nice at 4K especially the drivers view. But such a high res might make me drive faster too. lol

I gotta agree with Josh, although if I had to go back to SD then I'd probably have issues......

Ah but you and Josh did not have my CONTEXT...

What about when your team (WR) looks like he stepped out of bounds when he did not. (DUCKS GAME) and when they zoom in the resolution makes it impossible to tell if there were a few blades of grass between his shoes and the white line??

Happened this weekend... Oregon Ducks 2 point conversion. They lost anyway and overturned the call but would have been a whole lot easier in 4K for INSTANT REPLAY is my point.

1080i HD does not STAND UP TO ZOOMING IN ON INSTANT REPLAY

Just wanted to say that I am always amazed at the skill of the top network sports camera operators. They almost always nail focus and follow the completely random action with incredible control.

AGREED!! Those guys and gals can PULL FOCUS!... Imagine what they can do with MORE resolution!
