They are different cropped aspect ratios. 4K is the cinema standard 4096x2160 1.9:1, 4KHD is the UHD standard 3840x2160 16:9, and 4K wide is the scope standard 4096x1716 2.40:1.

4K "full" is 16:9 like HDTV - and gives you widest field of view on your lens/biggest sensor. This is what we almost always use on red One MX, and I would imagine a popular choice on Scarlet as well

RED's 4K WS is actually 4096x1708 pixels. I've wondered why it's not the standard height of 1716.

Hmmm. When I think "full" I usually think of the full chip which is 1.89:1(essentially the DCI spec), NOT 1.78:1 aka 16/9 the HD spec.

Short answer:

- 4K Full = 1.9:1 aspect ratio (4096x2160)
- 4K HD = 16x9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio (3840x2160)
- 4K WS = 2.37:1 aspect ratio (4096x1728)

HD refers to all of the broadcast variants of the 16x9 resolution.

WS refers to the wide screen aspect ratio that many films prefer to shoot in, from which you can choose to crop your 2.40:1 or 2.35:1 or whatever.

Full refers to maximum format size of the full sensor which is normally 1.9:1, with the except of Epic Dragon as 6K FF is 6144x3160 1.94:1.
