Right now it is impossible to predict dates on the removable lens Scarlet as there are so many variables in play and our team is focusing to work on resolving the logistics and shortages for Epic-X and Scarlet 8x. There are alot of "little" bits that come from Japan that have proven to be a bit of a shocker.. from the epoxy inside circuit boards to small components. Apart from prices of those parts doubling in price every few days, just getting them is going to be a constant battle.

We are doing our best to mitigate.. and we have found some creative ways to resolve, but right now its best to just keep your eye on here to see where we are, Jim is committed to letting you guys know when we know. Just please understand that since we are moving in realtime and posting updates in realtime, things can and likely will change as we move through the next month or two.

Do we still think it might release a little after NAB? For some reason that quote makes me think it'll be later on in the year...maybe around end summer.

I think it is something that is impossible to gauge, especially from users perspective and RED will update when they know more.

Its a wait and see situation IMO.

I think its going to be a blessing in Disguise for RED in the next 5 years.

RED ONE to EPIC transition and supply chain building in 2011
Scarlet Epic S in 2012
RED RAY in 2012 - 2013
Monstro and who knows what else 2012 - 2013
seems the most logical... I mean if I had a $1B ... id still realize moving from being an ENGINEERING company to a MANUFACTURING company from ground zero takes a few years... at least.

Funny how Jim went from making the most expensive inexpensive glasses to the least expensive, most expensive cameras"

smart dude who is wise enough to hire smarter dudes. RED rocks is what Jarred's post means

Sorry, but this is what I think it means:

When Scarlet is ready to ship, that will be a very cool day. Until then, I have decided to pull away from anxiously waiting. In the meantime, I'm pretty happy with the other stuff out there as far as publishing for the web is concerned..

Red will get it all sorted out. Japan has been hit VERY hard.. Camera's are cool but some empathy towards the situation is definitely in order. Not surprised if this throws a wrench in the process for some time really..

Who knows... It means for me that we still be patient... but the Day will be coming soon... ;D

Depends on how fast they can find alternate suppliers for parts from Japan not available due to the ongoing disaster there.

I'm crossing my fingers for end of the summer. Every day I shoot on my 7D rig my patience is tested.

Ha I love my 7D but there's not a day...nay an hour that goes by without me thinking about shooting on the Scarlet 8x. End of Summer/Early Fall would be best for me so I can save more, and it makes sense that with the delay of parts...the early May date stated by Jim in January would move to late summer/ early fall

hopefully.....

I think Scarlet fixed will start shipin at the end of the year 2011 and people wil get on hand almost januvery 2012 with the price of around $8000 that is what going to happen wait and see!

I honestly think that 2011 is the year of Epic and Scarlet. With the delays that have irritated and bugged the RED Team more than us, plus the working Scarlets out there with Ted, I know that it is on the brink of release. Think back to december, right when more Epic information was released and we started seeing some people besides RED with an Epic. I think that'll happen ( or is already happening) with the Scarlet. I believe that Scarlet will be out in 2011. More specifically end of summer ( September/October). As for the price, I wouldn't think it would go much past $6,000 for the package the Ted is carrying. When they estimate it at $6,000, I think they are ballparking it around $5,500-$6,500. If it was closer to $7,000 they would say around $7,000. Make sense? It does to me. But of course this is all speculation by analyzing the patterns we've seen RED take with the Epic, and Scarlet is a much different game

I said all along that it will be early 2012, and I'm sticking to it. The camera will cost around $10,000 and will be well worth it. And again, I'd say the only mistake that RED ever made with the Scarlet was a) telling people about it too soon and b) saying it will be way cheaper than it could have ever been produced for. They set goals that they could have never met and that is all that sticks in people throat. Threads like this will never achieve any answers. We just have to wait for the day that the Scarlet arrives and blows the camera world in two.

Just my opinion

Oh great, Red is one of the companies effected by the epoxy problem. I was reading about it weeks ago in the Electronics Engineering email. I didn't consider if Red would be effected, I was more worried about Imac and other new camera models.

The new rumor is that the new Imac will be end of April or early May, that would be a good end time for the scarlet.

I hope you're right, but there has been no word on whether Red has found substitute suppliers for the few components sourced from Japanese manufacturers. This may set Red back weeks or months. And I think Red, who have been very open about these delays, will let us know when they've found alternatives.

While I don't think we can draw any exacting conclusions about price, Jim and Jarred have both, I believe, mentioned the rapidly increasing costs of components. Add to that the apparent decision to manufacture Scarlet in the U.S., and you can imagine that the announced price might be higher than $6,000. In his announcement that Red's target market is professionals and that Red would no longer be hamstrung by price sensitivity, Jim Jannard signaled that Red would market products -- including Scarlet -- that would be priced in line with what they offer. That could mean that the price will be north of $6,000. I do hope that firmer estimates will be announced at NAB. But until Red locks down all of its suppliers, they may not even know what the price will be.

It's a blessing in disguise for me. Don't have any money. Haha. Sending daughter to college. That's about an Epic with attachments for 2 semesters. What a deal!!!!
