  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What about APPLE ?

Just a bit of correction. DisplayPort is not proprietary it's from VESA.

Apple isn't the first company to use DP either. Dell has had a DP monitor for months. Apple's the first to use the mini DP connector to my knowledge.

Glossy vs Matte is a tough one. Let's not fool ourselves and expect color accuracy rivaling a Pro monitor in a laptop but a Pro laptop should come with a choice. I'm pissed that the 13" Macbook doesn't have FW either because I'm an audio guy and FW audio interfaces are the best.

Displayport is not properiatary, but the MINIdisplay port Apple uses, is.
So you have to buy all these adapters, even if all other screens will support normal Display ports. Why do they use this? Because it takes less space... with other words: form over function.

I don't think that Apple will be waiting till NAB. They were not at NAB 08, or I'm wrong?

No there weren't and neither was Avid but neither company really had anything substantial to show. I think that's where the rumors about Apple not being interested in high end video came from last year.

I've heard from a 3rd party source that claims to have received this from an engineer for the spec that the mini connector is a feature in the DisplayPort 1.2 spec which hasn't been ratified. I wouldn't be surprised to see it become the standard on laptops where space is always an issue for connectivity.

I just did a quick search and a few others are hearing the same thing.

What universe do you live in? This is joke right?

Beaming information to you from planet earth and seated nicely in reality. Where are you coming from ? Care to give a be a little more specific?

Final Cut Pro is a quicktime ONLY app. So the only thing it's going to do is what it does with other formats like MXF and wrap it in QT.

I would rather have Final Cut Server handle r3d files natively. I think FC Server can be a kick ass conforming tool. It could be the conduit between all the Final Cut Suite apps. Handle versioning of color grading in Color, queue scheduling and management for Compressor, conform an offline or proxy timeline to the original high res.
