  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Welcome Kyle to the RED ASYLUM...

Im with you Gbaby.. coming from a fellow Canadian as well.

funny how that is.

Metaphoric...

Jim

Jim, I think that it's not really a metaphor for being AT war with conventional thinking, rather the imagery supports conventional thinking and notions of war. Since metaphors are comparing seemingly unrelated subjects, and if you allow that conventional thinking in this instance is power at the end of a gun, then perhaps a more powerful metaphor might be kyle standing there in the military vest et al with a REDONE instead of a gun.

This whole thread makes me laugh.

I couldn't give a shyte about branding. That's not my job. As long as they make a reliable kick ass camera then they can do whatever they like. Just because I adore beautiful women and diet coke/pepsi doesn't mean i'm biased or anything :)

ps- this is from a Canadian where few of have even seen a gun.

haha. so true eh?
although we have more guns here per capita then the yanks. strange that.

A bit of military DNA in the Red One camera development? Really?
Can't see that! :)

I for one, prefer my favorite camera platform: shooting from the Safari rack on top of my H2!

Hey, how do I get a custom avatar on this forum?

Here is the 80px version if you can help me here...........

This thread is fun. A little bit of everything, nobody seems too serious, and nobody getting too offended. Good.

Our Reds will be our weapons, so the picture makes total sense to me. And like weapons, they can be used for good or for bad; it's up to the user. Images, like words, are very powerful. Red is democratizing top-end image capture, and I think that's overall a good thing.

About Switzerland, they CAN be neutral BECAUSE the whole country is their army, and because every entrance into the country is well defended. It would be extremely costly for any country to invade. Of course it helps if they are not threatening to anyone, but benign countries have been attacked regularly throughout history, so being peacefully well-armed is only common sense. Having a true government of the people is necessary to being peaceful long-term. In any cases, good fences do make for good neighbors.

Back to Red, they do have a real fight on their hands with Sony and other "established interests". It's a fight worth fighting, and they need to arm themselves as best they can. Red users arm themselves with the Red camera, and with the best knowledge and information possible, which is why we are on this forum.

Long live Red, long live the Redvolution!

Come to think of it, the RED ONE would look perfect in the hands of a certain Governor...

Welcome to the RED World, Kyle. A little Adult Supervision can be a good thing. Like Moderation is a good thing - as long as you don't over do it. ;-)

Those weapons in your avatar are far more deadly than the one in Kyle's (right) hand, IMO. Post more often.

Hey Guys thanks for your hard work getting this revolutionary product out the Door !

Cheers and Happy New Years!

P.S.
I have have a few open days in 2008 and would be happy to help on the assembly line !

thats it. your BANNED!@@@@!!!.

heh heh heh..

Im thinking if we would of took the photos with Kyle holding flowers we woulda had the same backlash and somehow someone out there would of still been offended.

I think the moral of this story is that you cant please everyone all the time.

looks like this post needs some adult supervision.

It makes me very, very sad, when people try and take something out of context, something fun and light and try to piss all over it just because they can. Its happened here before. And I dont like it.

Lighten up people... It's a photo. In case you havn't noticed, A bit of RED's soul is military. If you dont like it, fine, but dont come in and start crying about social/political bullshit. This is not the place.

If your the kinda person that gets scared when you see stuff like this, this isnt the place for you.

heh heh that would be me.. and yes, i did pee a little. But its ok. I cried and moved on.

I for one agree with you Jarred. People around here need to realize the difference between a REAL political statement and a metaphorical declaration of the Red spirit in regards to the world of adversity constantly pointing metaphorical WMD’s directly at the Red movement 24/7/365. I believe RED has every right to point its well loaded metaphoric arsenal at the world. It is obvious to me at this point that any picture posted by Red SHOULD be contemplated at multiple levels and not simply digested at initial face value. You youngsters need to get a clue. Again…thank you RED for feel emotion…Sorry to get worked up.:ranting2:

I too am all for metaphors and fun and for giving the big (and sometimes arrogant) guys a hard time -- but I think it was Jim himself who said viva la competition -- and rightly so. Yes, humble them with a better product (I'll take the metaphor as "explode Sony's ego.")

But I have to admit I am personally saddened to note the metaphors of enforcement through war/violence are far more commonplace in our culture (and seem to be more relevant to many) than the metaphors of nurturing the delicate blossoms of life without which none of us would be alive or eating or using Red cameras -- all lip service to the contrary. And after experiencing war/ violence, I think it's difficult to find the metaphorical "fun" in it for many of us, so perhaps that's why some offense might be taken. I personally like the red roses "offering" -- and the implications of that metaphor, and its connection to transforming light and "making obsolescence obsolete." (Flowers will never, I pray, become obsolete or fail to delight.)

But let Red (and its bloodless revolution) bloom! (And of course whatever metaphors they choose to do it with.)

If I can remember well I wrote here that RED is in a "WAR" (metaphorically speaking or whatever...) long ago.

Each revolution needs sort of "Military strategy" and "Intelligence".

Also I learned and experienced long ago all that on my "skin" (born in the Balkans).

Nothing could surprise me anymore.

And always ready to fight.

The most of the forum's members and moderators here know that well about me.

Care to elaborate? :construction:

Or it's too personal?

EDIT: PM is preferable. :)

I understand. The Balkans have always been an explosive topic and territory. :meh:
