  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I see that the Epic to Dragon sensor upgrade line closes this week on Wednesday. I would guess they are closing the upgrades to retool and organise a new line for Weapon camera production. Fingers crossed this is the case and I hope to see the first of the cameras rolling out in August.

Yep. It's really happening. First Forged Weapons shipping this month. First Carbon Weapons shipping within 6-8 weeks likely according to Jarred.

Just like RED stated at NAB 2015, the MX to Dragon upgrade path had to end eventually to make room for the future. Looks like the future is coming pretty soon.
 
Phil, I do not see the Forged Weapon on the online store site. Only the CF Weapon and the Magnesium Weapon.

AM I missing something?

Forged is a "special option" that Jarred dropped a hint about around NAB 2015. Ordering requires a premium and talking to your Rep.

Has anyone else received any useful information regarding weapon orders? I bought a brand new Weapon Package along with the 8k sensor upgrade (new customer, not an upgrade) days after NAB. I was wondering if anyone knows who these are shipping, same time as upgrades? Red has given me nothing other than super vague info so I was hoping one of you have heard something that I haven't?

I hope you're terribly wrong…more than you have ever been wrong in all your existence. Why do you say this?

On a separate note, I need this Weapon camera like yesterday.

he is right.Red already stated all camera updates need to upgrade weapon first.Then 8K weapon upgrade few months later.There is no direct 8K upgrade.

The original plan of attack is 8K Weapon at the end of 2015. However, I know that several folks are very interested in 8K shooting. I wonder if there's a possibility of sooner rather than later.

All of this is premature though. Forged and Woven 6K Carbon Weapon's need to drop first. That will likely take us through July to August/September. Don't know when Magnesium Weapons ship, but that is happening as well.

This camera is a big move for RED and it's certainly going to be a push to get these brains and accessories out. Really looking forward to seeing what we can do with it. Personally I'm gearing up for 8K in a huge way. Not just due to the resolution, but to explore that larger format size.
 
RED estimated (ultimately mid) July for the first 6k Weapon upgrades, and 6-8 week lead time for the Forged Weapon upgrades.

The Forged Weapon queue to upgrade to 8k will likely also include brand new Forged 6k Weapons first.

My expectation is non-forged 6k Weapon upgrades (to 8k) will begin around March 2016.

Not sure I understand the plan to send us a 6k camera and a few months later ask us to send it back to be replaced with an 8k sensor. Do they just need a bunch of 6k sensors broken in?

I would happily just wait until the 8k sensors are available and receive my camera locked and loaded with 8k ammunition.

Phil, you would know this: Are the productions currently shooting with 8k protos experiencing any problems? If not... Release the damn thing!
 
I really don't want to hear March of next year for 8k carbon. I bought into CF carbon weapon 8k with the promise this summer for carbon 6k, before the end of the year carbon 8k. This whole forged carbon came later. Now is it going to be if you want to get Weapon on the promised time schedule that you have to further upgrade to forged? If so, that sucks. 10k to get stylin'?
 
well upgrading everything always takes them a bit to do anyway. so this process will take what it takes. dragon is relatively new still so this time i feel not rushed to get an upgrade, because it will take whatever it takes to get to my name in line anyway
