A question though... is that Leica a Summilux? Wouldn't that be unable to cover 8K, especially at 18mm. It won't cover 6K. But the attachment on the back of it looks like some kind of adapter. Are we able to use Summilux or Summicron with an adapter on the 8K to get the Leica look on the 8K? That would be awesome... with a whole camera that is :tongue_smilie:
It's a Summicron-C. And while it doesn't cover 8K FF, it has nice coverage at higher resolutions especially using the WS formats.
What you are looking at is the internal guts of the lens itself, which extends out to the PL Mount.
IB/E Optics is making their S35XFF Expander which should allow for lenses like the Summicron-C, which are designed for Super 35mm, to cover the full 8K FF sensor while maintaining the familiar FOV of S35 on the VV+ format size. Of course at the cost of a stop of light.
Interestingly enough now that I have stared at the photo for a second, considering the condition of the OLPF, I do wonder if the sensor somehow survived this crash. Without seeing the rest of the lens, it also looks like it did pretty considering the hell it went through.
I can think of a few other notable camera and lens destroying crashes, but I don't think I've seen one destroy such a "rare bird" of a camera before.
Just hold down the power button for a few seconds to reset to factory defaults.
