Hello everyone,
I want to ask if it's possible to have RedWideGamut + Log3g10 in RED Weapon Mg Dragon body (dsmc2)

I currently have those setting in Helium Epic-W, and my friend asked if it's possible to have RedWideGamut in his body (Weapon Mg)
Those that own a Weapon body with Dragon sensor, do you have RedWideGamut and Log3g10 option in the new firmware?

I don't believe the MG Weapon has the horse power to have RedWideGamut + Log3g10 in the camera. Only in post. The new Helium and CF Weapons can do it in camera.

Thanks

Doesn't Epic-W have the same internal specs as the MG? Hence the same initial price when it was released.

There will be news of all of this shortly.

In terms of what you can do today, RWG/Log3G10+ Transform LUT can happen in camera in the preview build.

This would be super cool, since I'm going to wait for VV on my woven and my magnum will be my 2nd camera for VV. I btw find RWG is so awesome that I'm hardly ever shooting prores on the magnum (it's just to much of a comprise between raw RWG and prores 422), so I really don't need the CPU ever to be doing RWG to RAW and also saving a prores file - if that matters from a firmware/build viewpoint.

Epic-W can do 275 MB/s data speeds vs. MG's 225MB/s

That's the write speeds... not processing. Remember that Epic-W handles 8K files, so having almost the same specs hardware-wise, it's pushed to the limits by handling the resolution. I wouldn't be surprised if MG could handle the new color science fine.

However... I have a hard time understanding why to even bother with the new color science on set. You do cinematography based off correct exposure, not the color science. I guess getting proper LUTs from grades based off the new color science is good and getting that color science onto ProRes files, but it really doesn't shine until you do post production. I see no reason not to just shoot regular DC2/RG3 and then use the new color science in post. It's not a deal breaking. I've also never understood the reason for shooting ProRes only when you have R3D, it's like putting a small car engine in a Ferrari and in some way be excited about it :tongue_smilie:

I agree on prores only. On why RWG is nice on set is there are a lot of people like me that are not lighting the set correctly. I think there's a lot of reasons in the industry why sets are often not lighted correctly for the specific camera : lot more "film stocks" due to digital "film stocks", production cost/budget seem to be crazy low, with VR field of view a huge dynamic range needs to be capture in many scenes, fall of the apprentice system, just way more people taking movie footage. I've gotten fanatical on using the gio scope to help me not make major mistakes, but RWG with the gio scope in combination I think would drastically reduce how much I have to do relighting in post( post relighting is very costly but is really required for a ton of the footage now a days).

Well the most obvious and easy answer is because it looks better on set, which is pretty dang important to me. Really really important actually. Why should I explain to the client that it'll look better later. Nobody wants to hear that. I hate redgammas, they are terrible, I developed a LUT I use now and it's way more pleasing on set, and since it's raw, it can get even better! I'd love to work my LUT off the new widegamut.

I agree. I do hope RWG is able to be installed on Weapon MG, since they are still new and DSMC2.
Lots of LUTS will use the new Redwidegamut color space, and I want to be able to use it during shoots on all cameras (Weapon MG and Epic-W)

RWG is in the latest camera build. RWG is not a viewing color space though, you need a transform, or LUT, to convert it into a proper viewing space.
